Have a V1, but purchased a V2 on the Rivian forums (before recall) because I was having issues with the locking mechanism on some, but not all Tesla SC's. My wife just did not like the locking mechanism. Anyone looking for a good used V2 (used once according to seller and I have never used it since purchase), I have one for sale. Before sale I will test on a SC. Message me.

What if we dont want to do the exchange, and just want a refund?

You get nothing. Just like any recall. If you don’t accept terms, you’re on your own. If cash is what you need, take the exchange and sell what you receive.

This recall is probably costing A2Z an arm and a leg. Cost of logistics. Cost of producing what was originally sold and what will be exchanged for. Cost of destroying (and recycling, if any) recalled units. Put yourself in their shoes. If it was your business, would it be financially responsible for you to also offer cash refund? It's a recall, not a class action settlement.

A2Z made the process simple. If you get the email, just follow directions - took me 5 mins, and half of that was walking out to car and getting the adapter to get a picture.

A2Z is doing the right thing here. As @sub pointed out, the locking mechanism failure can manifest WAY before the 10k charge cycle claimed.
You actually got an email?

@A2ZEV, I bought the original Typhoon adapter and later sold it to someone else when the Typhoon Pro came out and I bought/received that one. I did not receive an email about this exchange program, but sounds like there's no way for the person that got my old one to get the updated version?

There is an email to reach out to. I would hope they would help those people in that way if they can show how it was purchased, etc.

Yeah mine arrived this week as well.

I still want to have both though. Nice to have a backup.

My hope is that this all happened as a part of A2Z trying to work with Tesla to authorize the use of their adapters.

Tesla didn't like the V1 and so was reluctant to approve any A2Z. By pulling the V1's out of the market hopefully they are clearing a path for official approval of the V2 for use at Superchargers.

The missing gaps of the story (as told through conversation between SoC and A2Z CEO), I can't help but wonder if another entity was trying to inflict damage to what it sees as competition. The conversation mentions report from a third party engineering group. How/why are they involved? Who got them involved? Who are they and what motivation do they have to conduct investigation and write a report? No one does this for free, right? If they are not connected to or hired by Tesla, who did and how did they and Tesla link up?

Lectron has had a recall of their own. Lectron is the only one known to have been abandoned at Superchargers by owners. Yet, Lectron is the adapter GM and Ford has selected to sell to their customers; despite receiving no official approval. Why? Curious, right?

Conversation mentions pending certification of Typhoon Pro. Didn't mention UL2252. Is that what was meant? Tesla's own adapter isn't UL certified. So, once certified, what does that mean? Feels like all parties are not addressing the elephant in the room, in order to leave themselves legal room.

I fear you think too highly of Tesla in general. It's very likely they are going to continue bullying third parties into submission, while simultaneously failing to produce their own adaptors quickly and safely. There simply isn't any upside for them to produce adaptors for non-Teslas, and now there will be very little incentive for them to even support non-Tesla NACS vehicles like R2 or R3 in the future.

Return Status: You have not initiated a return or resold your V1 adapter.

I bought a V1 adapter from someone who had 2 delivered. Looks like I'm not eligible for a replacement. If this is a safety concern and recall of sorts, why wouldn't all adapters qualify?
I’m in a similar boat, if it’s a safety issue and given NHTSA will be announcing the recall, I hope I can find a way to take part of the recall, especially given there is a real risk and safety concern.
