Affordable Winter Wheels Setup: Ram 2363

Got a set of moderately used BFGoodrich KO2s for $250 mounted and balanced. Advertised for $350, but guy said $250 so I didn't complain. They were 2019 and 2020 dated tires. Will be fine for my uses, which is probably less than 4-5 times a year.

With a child seat behind the front passenger, it was pretty tough getting things in while being careful not to damage anything. Had to really force that bottom tailgate closed.

I bought some cheap graphite/gunmetal wheel paint and some Sharpie branded white tire lettering markers. Will play around over the next few weeks. Also picked up some jack pucks to go with my 3 ton so I can start using them.

These might be chunky bois.

Haha yeah, I just got back from the tire shop (still two in the bed) and wanted to see how they looked.

Still a smidge too warm for the winters, but at least I'm ready!

I was thinking of doing some sort of bronze, but there weren't a lot of colors available and I figured gunmetal would be "safer". It was that or a matte black.

I was pretty excited to get my snows mounted. So excited in fact I showed up 7 days early to my Costco appointment. Whoops.

Hi all! After following this and other threads for about a year, I finally mounted my winter set up yesterday. I found Hakka LT3’s that were used by a Rivian owner for one season before selling his truck. Otherwise, I used all of the items that are commonly listed. The Amazon preprogrammed Rivian TPMS sensors were picked up by the truck after a couple minutes of driving. The hub rings were a little snug going into the wheels but tapped in easily with a mallet. I did buy and use Permatex 80078 Anti-Seize on the rings with the hope that they will come off of the truck easily after the winter. Thanks to Riviot for the stickers for the new center caps. I was debating powdercoating but felt it was too expensive around where I live for wheels that I am uncertain I will use forever. So I used Hyperdip, I could have done a better job but I’m happy with the results for now. The only issue that I ran into was that the front suspension was too low after changing the wheels. I don’t see how the issue would be related to the wheels. I followed tire change guidance of off road high and tire change setting before swapping out my 20 brights. It seems to have eventually resolved itself after some changes back and forth between heights, a hard reset, and a highway drive.

I have all the parts, now I need a tire shop that'll install my TPMS. Apparently 4 years ago Costco made it policy to only install TPMS they sell you.
Love Costco, but that's pretty annoying when I asked the same tire center specifically if it would be okay while holding my TPMS in front of them last week.

At this point my backordered other wheels are getting closer and closer, maybe I'll just wait it out.
(And the tires are backordered everywhere else now so can't even price match with Tire rack/discount so I did buy the tires anyways)

The TPMS sensors trickiest part is torqing to thier recommendation. I ended up not even using my torqie wrench. Just a deep socket and wtench needed.

I did take a little 100% silicone on the inner stem. Prob not needed.

Hmmm I hadn't considered installing them myself. Shoot, then they would never have noticed. Next time!

Trust me, I'd have to try an entirely different Costco. The first guy that said I could do it the week before was the one I needed. He was pretty silent yesterday and I didn't want to call him out.

That sounds like BS to me. My Costco definitely showed a line item on the invoice for install for a different vehicle.

No that's accurate, there's an $8 tire disposal fee but the install is baked into the price of their tires. Which is why I buy them there and am usually a very happy shareholder surrounded by too many baked goods.

Now that there are more than a few people running tires on the Dodge wheels and winter is upon us I have a question. I have WildPeak tires mounted to Dodge wheels and I have about 600 miles on them. When I drive at interstate speeds, starting at about 50MPH, I start to get a shimmy in the steering wheel, very slight, that will go away at certain speeds. Like at 62MPH it is pretty much gone but at 65 it's back. At 70mph it is at its worst. If I hold the steering wheel the shimmy is gone but I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel. If I let go of the wheel it vibrates back and forth continuously. I have returned all wheels to Discount tire three times for rebalance and all three times the weight distribution on the wheels has been changed, but the problem persists. I'm wondering if the 19.5 offset of the Dodge wheel is somehow contributing to or exaggerating the problem. With my original 21 inch wheels and tire there is no shimmy and there is no vibration. has anyone experienced this problem. I'm thinking there may be a defect in one of my tires.

Ever since we originally spoke of this, I've been watching my steering wheel and feeling it out. I'm at about 2500 miles now and when I do get/feel a shimmy, it ends up being the road itself. Once I get on a good fresh paved section, it's smooth at all speeds.

I think it's either a bad tire, or just ATs are generally wobblier. I felt the same shimmy I have with stock 20 ATs but never felt anything with the AS tires.
