In all seriousness it does bring up the issue of installing smoke/fire detectors, alarms when we install the charger wiring

Everyone should have a smoke detector in their garage. Anything can catch fire and it would take awhile to be noticed. I have a detector as well as a device that links to my home automation system that would alert me to the presence of smoke.

Cool if that works well for you. I believe the recommendation is a Heat Detector in a garage, not a traditional smoke alarm due to potential for false alarms in a garage/fumes/dust. I will be installing a Heat Detector (see Amazon).

Yes, an alarm in the garage is highly recommended regardless of whether an electric (or any other type of vehicle) is parked there. My wife has friends in NC who are living out of a hotel right now because of a garage fire and they don't even own a car. But there was some woodworking equipment and solvents stored there so the garage was a total loss with significant smoke and water damage to the living space.

No gas fumes with a BEV :)

OK, may be we should not push for on time deliveries. No need for Rivian to deal with battery shortage by taking the LG batteries GM is taking out of Bolt. Then again, I see a good buying opportunity coming for RIVN due to this news.

The bolt uses pouch cells, not cylindrical ones.

I hope Rivian can be transparent with the investigation/root cause and preventative measures to prevent recurrence (IR/CAPA). This would provide some confidence to those of us waiting for our deliveries that we are not purchasing something like the Chevy bolt.

Either way, it seems Friday was a day of fires at EV plants:

Hope it wasn’t the Limestone one.
I laughed way too hard at this comment.

Seriously though, good thing no one was injured and it seems like the factory has all the appropriate safety measures in place.
