Something is very wrong with your vehicle. Even with the recently increased drain (likely update software bugs), you should be seeing less than ~2% loss per day (24 hours) with GG on.....make sure you don't have a seat belt buckled and are not unknowingly running HVAC....and submit a service ticket.

Not keeping any seat belts buckled, no hvac running, etc.
Gear guard was on but I am literally out in the woods right now and very little of any movement around the truck during this time

Rivian (really all EV makers) need to get this sorted out. The vehicles need an option to actually turn off, not just run at a lower power setting. We can park an ICE vehicle for 6+ months and have it start just fine without having to constantly recharge a 12v battery, no excuses for why Rivian can’t manage to do the same.

Im going to echo what others have already said about this level of burn being high. I park at the airport regularly and it's been a consistant 1%/day since I got the car a year ago. This should not be an issue. I would continue to work with Rivian and push them for a solution.

My Polestar 2 has always been completely solid at avoiding phantom drain. I've even had it parked outside for the last week+ with night time lows at 20F, hasn't lost a point. From what I understand, most batteries shouldn't actually even need thermal management until they're closer to 0?

Thanks for all the comments. here's a dumb question that might be it - how do I make sure the HVAC is off? I had the AC/fan off (confirmed in the app when I was checking remotely too) but the temp was set to 69. Would the AC turn on on it's own to hold the temp?
I did notice that when I got home after the trip and got in the car to move it, it was kind of warm inside (assumed it was bc it was parked out in the sun)

Now, this is interesting. As previously noted, I’ve been tracking my Vampire Drain for the last few weeks, by comparing Trip Meter A (reset daily) to Trip Meter (constantly running). Surprisingly, since the latest software update 2024.43.01, it sure appears that my Vampire drain has been diminishing. Before the update, my Trip Meter B was pretty consistently showing projected range in the mid-240 miles (Note the column on the right in the attachement).This figure was well below my the Trip Meter A projected range, as it included VD when the vehicle sat overnight. Since the update, that Trip Meter B figure has improved every single day, now sitting at 267 miles. My VD miles lost per day has dropped from around 4 to about 2.70. VD is now accounting for a loss of only 1.21 kWh/day or a 0.93% battery loss.

Is this a freak thing or did Rivian sneak in a significant energy management solution with this last software upgrade? Anybody else noticing a change.

I got the software update earlier this week, and am not seeing a measurable decrease in my VD. I’m tracking on ElectraFi and still seeing an absurd amount of idle and sleeps.

Something appears to be on/running during your sleep cycle's. The vehicle should not experience drain when sleep.

@Gologic - please let us know what happened with your Gen2 Tri. Was it dead when you got back to the airport?

I can't believe this has come up with the Gen2. I believed the marketing material claiming the "lowest vampire drain in the industry", or something to that effect. It is a big reason I decided to wait for the Gen2 instead of getting a Gen1.

I cannot own a vehicle that will leave me stranded when I fly back from a long trip. If this is a common issue with the Gen2 R1s, I might have to reconsider my plan to purchase one. Crap. This sucks.

I’m seeing a daily loss of 1.5% / 4.35 mi / 1.85 kWh sometimes a bit more. This has been about the same for me.

That was a total BS statement from someone at Rivian.
There is no way on earth a connected vehicle that constantly uploads as much data to the mother ship as the R1 vehicles do could have "virtually no vampire drain". Now, if they would just stop constantly uploading and downloading so much data 24/7 they might be able to get daily drain down to or even below 0.5kWh/day on the Gen II vehicles.

Other "connected" EV's that I currently own do actually approach zero vampire drain on a daily basis. Difference is they aren't constantly uploading and downloading data to and from the mother ship 24/7.

My 2024 BMW iX was parked at the airport for a month and a half almost, lost 2% this entire time. Parked it with 56% and it was at 54% when I came back. I was checking the app every day and the cameras were on the entire time. Connected EVs can definitely be very efficient when it comes to vampire draw of electronics, Rivian is not one of them. It was parked on the top floor with very minimal foot traffic, so maybe that’s why it did great, but still, Rivians lose 2-3%/day just for being Rivians.

Are you seeing any additional improvements after .47? I’ve been at 55% since yesterday at 5:24pm.

I’m not sure about .47, but it sure looks like it’s getting better. In fact, since .43, the gap between the long term trip meter and daily trip meter has really stabilized. I wasn’t expecting that. Comparing the two, as of today, the average loss for the last 34 days is sitting at about .84 kWh, .64% and 1.8 miles per day - and slowly dropping. The gap between total kWh used (daily driving vs. long term) since 11/14, is sitting pretty steady at about 27-28 kWh. My previous post from 2 weeks ago showed a 27 kWh difference. So, basically, no change in 2 weeks. This is incredible. Based on that info, there has been no drain over that two week period. That can’t be possible, but I’m going with whatever data the car is giving me. I’m wondering if Rivian has found a way to remove vampire drain data from the long term trip meter. This is something I have always wanted and requested from Rivian. In the last couple of days since I downloaded .47, I have been getting very good daily driving efficiency, especially considering less than ideal weather, and it seems to be trending up. In fact, since .43 and continuing with .47, all numbers seem to be improving. Attached is shot of the last 6 days, with the totals for all 34 days.

Don’t know what Rivian did, but I’m liking it!

On a side note, for a while during this experiment, I was preconditioning the battery in the morning. I thought this would help my range. I have since stopped doing that. It didn’t seem to offer any advantage. Now, as with today, I take off with the battery temp often in the low 30’s. After about 30-40 miles, the temp is up to about 40ish and my driving efficiency still seems great. Go figure.
