For those that currently have a 3x, are you planning on upgrading? Would be nice to know what the trade in situation will be (if any). Also, does anyone have a side by side picture of the 4 and 3x so we can see the size difference?

There don't seem to be any practical benefits to upgrade. If history repeats itself, they usually have a $250 trade-in benefit.

Comma is so worth it. Definitely makes all driving experiences better. Also, doesnt suffer from glare issues like most other systems do.

Looking to add to my ither vehicles once they are added to the list of coverage.

I have a magnet connection solution. As long as I connect before putting in gear I have I have had no issues going back and forth in T and S. If I forgot and put unit on mount in gear I had a few occasional issues that a reset took care of.

When the time comes, the practical benefit may be support for the device, as comma has said the 3x will be supported for another year. Another practical benefit is size. For me, I don't have any plans to upgrade currently but that might change after support ends or if there was a significant sale event for upgraders.

Not quite, but this might give you a idea of it's size.

More info on size and installation here: https://comma.ai/setup

Curious that they didn't place the power outlet on the side and design a side slide mount if they recommend getting it as high as possible. Because of those design decisions, it has to be mounted low enough that it nearly negates the size advantage of the 4 vs 3x.

Exactly what I imagined. I returned the earlier model as it was like an old school gps in the middle of the windshield. Most may not agree with me but i didn’t want something in the way of my vision.
This looks minimal and tucked it right. Ordering now

Which harness do I order? Just the one on comma website for Rivian or from xnor ?

You can go with the comma harness if you want, heck it's free right now. It is recommended to make an adjustment to the harness to bypass using AXM power at all and going with a fuse tap, but not necessary unless you find yourself with the rare motor fault issue.

If you want longitudinal control, you'll need to get the added adapter from xnor. It's much easier to install later if you want than the original harness since you don't have to access the AXM port again.

Oh yea! I see the harness is $0 when added to cart. Cool

as long as there's no glare on the camera, the lane markings are clear,
Sigh. You rat bastard. Did you hear your name being cursed? I was loud. Not even one hour after that post, the car tried to kill me twice on I-215, then checked out completely with "take over." It was mistaking the construction cut lines for lane lines.

Rivian R1T R1S Comma 4 Four released 1762824086475-0n

And then a few minutes later, the glare here made the lane lines invisible to D+ and it errored out.

Off topic you may think? This is not the place to bitch about D+? But no, it's a perfect comparison. I drove this exact route at the same time of day using the Comma before, and it did NOT have problems. It was not perfect, meaning it did some slightly drunk lane centering in the worst spots, but gently and without making me fear for my life.

On the PHX>LAS side, there's a section with double white lane markings. D+ varies from drunk to dangerous there. OpenPilot simply takes the closest line as the guide, as it should.

I have both Lukas harnesses, but if I'm seeing the latest info correctly, the outside power is NOT a benefit unless I have the specific motor issue? I currently have nothing installed and starting over. I don't have a fuse tap handy (but can order it from Amazon, and the connectors for the harness).

One of the most interesting things I learned at Comma Con this weekend is that Openpilot does not take lane markings into consideration at all. Not in the traditional sense at least. The lane markings we see on the screen are purely a UI thing for us, the drivers.
