I finally got my R1S! But my EV charger doesn’t reach the charging port when parked forwards and backing in is a bit tedious in our setup.

Is it safe to use extenders?
Can I have electrician extend cable from unit?
Or do I need to replace it.

Best to have qualified person relocate the wall connector unit for you. Stay away from extenders unless no other choices. Tesla j1772 wall connector has a 20+ foot cable on it and works great with Rivian vehicles. Only $550 for the unit.

I need to back my R1T into the garage. It's tedious at first but you get used to it after a week or two. It's not as easy as just pulling in when you get home...but it's much quicker and easier when your heading out.

I don't recommend an "extender". The safe options are back in or relocate the charger. I am assuming your current charger already has a 24ft cable. If it doesn't then you may also be able to replace the charger as mentioned above.

I second the recommendation for the J1772 Tesla wall connector. I have two Tesla WC on my garage and they load share 60 amps total.

I actually prefer backing in now after enough "practice". Makes loading or unloading the trunk from the house a breeze since it's right in front of the door to the house now.

I would recommend get an electrician and just relocate your outlet. Or get 2 outlets installed in the garage.. thats what i did on mine. so i can park the Tesla or the Rivian or whatever EV you buy in the future.

If 10' more cord will do it, then a new charger with 24-25' of cable is likely the best option.

Looks like you're in Atlanta, so you could buy a new EVSE through the GA Power marketplace with the $250 rebate already applied instantly. You'll have to get it installed, but swapping the EVSE without adding a circuit or any new wiring is doable as DIY or relatively cheaply with an electrician. I think all of these have 23'-25' cables. If that's enough to get the job done, that's safer and cleaner than using an extension cord.

Don’t buy all the ignorance, buy a properly rated extension and be done with it. They are rated for a reason, mine comes in handy for inconsiderate parking at L2 chargers as well ?
