Oh dear. I just watched the trailer. You are right. That doesn't inspire confidence. Sounds like I might as well order my windshield from Temu.

Ken, in same boat. 8 months of ownership and second windshield lasted 2 months. I live in Maine but both cracks were on highways due to small rocks. Applied Rain-x repair kit while I procrastinate having to go to Massachusetts for certified collision repair center for second time.

That's disappointing. I'm not sure how to drive without having anything hit the windshield. Seems like Rivian should be handing them out free.

I'm getting close to two years, no issues with the windshield. I'm not sure if it is true, but I've heard that not driving near big trucks reduces your chances of having a rock kicked up into your windshield.

I hope you have better luck with your third windshield.

Doesn't matter what or where you drive, or where the glass comes from, if you drive on busy roads, you're doomed. Just my take. Sometimes you're just super unlucky. I swear some rocks have homing devices for my truck.

And... not that large trucks shouldn't be avoided, but most of my windshield dings have been on the road from normal sized cars and SUVs. I got nailed by the rock getting kicked up by a CRV in front of the vehicle I was following, and a good distance away.

Sealed my 7inch crack and wound with Rain-X repair resin, hasn't grown since, and it's been over a year. Figure I'll wait until the next big wound, or maybe the one after that to replace... save some money. The glass is fine (so long as its not directly in my view).

PPF your windshield it will deter most strikes.

Both of these have been rock strikes that immediately cracked to the edges of the windshield, so no repair was possible. They had to be replaced. Oddly, both occurred near the bottom of the windshield in the 8 inches of glass that is not visible from inside the cab.

When you say "they had to be replaced" it's more of a desire to replace, there's no functional reason you had to replace them, cracks in windshields out of the field of view do not require replacement.

Mine is already super pitted after only a year of use. Definitely much more so than in my other cars after similar use. I have one star from a rock strike that I’m hoping doesn’t propagate.

R1S windshield got a rock chip within a month here in Idaho where we have a lot of construction, road work and big haul trucks that do not cover their loads. It is a common problem here, but that said my Tesla has been hit many times without chipping, maybe luck??
After Safelite, glued the chip, I got hit again within a week and now have an 8" crack across the top. Time for a replacement now, but I'm just waiting it out for the next hit.
