Had mine done, cost was significant. Total out of warranty cost for that visit was 6K (including others). The guy at SC had a tone of voice indicating he was doing me a solid. I agreed and thanked him.

That was two front dampers. No it wasn't that much because that number included a few other things, but it was 2K (ish) each corner if I recall correctly. So all 4 dampers replaced is $6k out of pocket?
I tried back in August and they did the "it's normal" routine. Which it is normal for gen1 dampers, so they weren't lying. That was two front dampers. No it wasn't that much because that number included a few other things, but it was 2K (ish) each corner if I recall correctly.
Did you have them replaced due to excessive noise? Everyone says the ride on the R1T is great so I assume you weren’t looking for an improvement in ride quality.Had mine done, cost was significant. It was for noise, the same noise 90% of the complaints are. This and the jounce lines transformed the truck.Did you have them replaced due to excessive noise? Everyone says the ride on the R1T is great so I assume you weren’t looking for an improvement in ride quality.
and they made you pay for it? Wow…..
curious, what’s the build date and/or vin of your car?My Gen 1 R1S was in for service for some other matter and he said they noticed the front dampers were leaking so they replaced them under warranty. He said the new ones are better and I should notice an improvement. I did notice an improvement but it did not seem like a huge difference. I do not think I would ask or pay for the replacement.
thanks for that! The taper and lack of white plastic is also what I noticed on the newer dampers. They’re just replacing the dampers (the top part with the rubber boot,) and not the air spring which is below, correct? If so, do you know what the part number is for the just the damper? On mine, when they replaced the front ones for new ones (they were noisy and used the gen2 revised PN’s) I said I would not want two different style struts between front and back so I spoke to a manager to match the front with new rear ones so that the car was uniform. He agreed.
Pic of the new ones, you’ll see how the boot tapers down (gen1’s don’t have a taper).
