Just curious what year your Gen 1 R1S trade-in was? I’ve driven multiple earlier versions (i.e., launch edition) and couldn’t believe how much quieter and seemingly better quality built my 2024 is compared to those.
2022. My 2022 R1T is rattle free. The Gen2 is just quieter by design though.

We took delivery of our Gen 2 2025 R1S Dual/Max on 7/24 at the Colorado Springs Service Center. We live 5 hours away so before driving there I asked for and recieved confirmation that the vehicle had passed all inspections and there were no issues that would interfere with taking it home. We paid for it in full via ACH transfer the day before. We knew there might be issues since the Gen 2 is so new so we planned to stay there with friends for a couple nights before driving home.

Issues identified at pickup:

1. Small weatherstripping misalignment on front passenger door. Seemingly fixed by tech with a heat gun while we waited.
2. AC was not blowing cold air. It was 90+ degrees and the AC was not cooling it at all. They took it back to service and diagnosed a leak in the AC compressor that was letting all the fluid drain out. They did not know when the part will be available - they said might be anywhere from a week to a month or more.
3. While parking after driving the vehicle around for about 30 minutes (without AC in 90+ degree heat) it briefly threw a "critical battery error" message and rebooted itself. Error message disappeared after reboot but we asked them to look into this as well.

Everyone at the service center was very apologetic and they gave us a loaner Quad motor R1S to take home, and agreed to deliver ours to us in NM once it is fixed. Fortunately they had a loaner available to give us. So we are happy with how they took care of us and I will report back here when I have more info. Sponsored
Update 3 weeks later: They have now replaced the AC compressor; but in the process of post-repair testing they discovered that the HV Battery pack also needs to be replaced. The service manager said the two were likely related but did not know enough to explain exactly what the issue with the battery is aside from mentioning that there is a valve of some sort that was stuck open (or possibly closed, I don't remember which). I assume it has to do with the battery cooling system. It will take at least a few days to get it and a couple more to install, so we are likely looking at the end of next week at the earliest. This will be over 4 weeks since we were supposed to pick it up.

We still have the loaner and I will say it has been a great vehicle. But it is super frustrating to pay for a vehicle in full and have it be out of service for the entire first month of ownership. I really hope we don't have more issues with this one and that Rivian can get their quality control sh!t together ASAP.

I searched and did not find a "generic" thread on Gen 2 issues so I thought I'd start one.

Ordered & finally collected our Gen2 R1S, Dual, Performance Max on Friday 31st August- within 1 hour of leaving the Service Centre, had a 'Service Suspension' light come up. Called through the App & very helpful customer service organized a call out to our home to fix it at the earliest service window (in SoCal) of November. Next morning we drove it back to the Service Centre, where a Technician said it's not safe to drive & be on the road. They took it back, less than 24hrs after driving off the very lot we returned it to, with 56 (total) miles on the clock (including any predelivery mileage). They loaned us a gen 1 R1T Quad.
12 days later we returned to collect our R1S, they'd had order & then replace the south ECU.
Yesterday (22nd Sept) when charging at home the charge was (unusually) interrupted several times, with a Vehicle Error message.
Running a short errand that evening, I got 3 streets over & at the lights the car would not Hold & started rolling back. Multiple warning lights came on, GPS was not updating, Front sensors not working, the drivers left screen & centre started animating different warnings. I pulled off the road into our local gas station & tried several hard reboots, to no avail, simply was not rebooting.
Called Rivian & had already scheduled an appointment to have the WIFI & centre console USB ports issue fixed later this week, & speaking to the same advisor (Amber) she organized for the car to be collected today.
We've had the car on the road for maybe 2 weeks, & our confidence in it is being severely tested.

R1S Gen 2
Took delivery of my R1S Gen 2, Standard Dual Motor, in Late July.

Delivery issues (Resolved):
1. Rear A/C Screen was defective, replaced by SC.
2. Liftgate did not open 90% of the time when you push the button, repaired by SC.
3. Glue residue on center console, replaced by SC.
4. Center console passenger door did not fully open, replaced by SC.
5. Rear Roof Passenger Black Piece grossly misaligned with liftgate, replaced by SC.
6. Headliner not secured to roof at the 3rd row, magnets/hardware replaced by SC.

New issues that I found lately, some I missed during delivery:
1. AWD Unavailable light came on with the turtle / limp mode, went away next day, made a SC appointment.
2. Plastic Cover for the driver seat bolt was broken at the hinge (found when I was installing Gen2 all weather mats), mobile service pending.
3. Center Console storage / camp speaker face frame not installed correctly, mobile service pending.
4. Passenger rubber rocker piece not installed correctly and pealing off, mobile service pending.
5. Front, A pillar, grossly misaligned with roof, mobile service pending.

Quirks:
1. Rear Passenger Door is hard to close. I had SC look at it but they say its normal.
2. Wind noise, not too bad, but somewhat annoying if you have sensitive hearing.
3. Minor steering wheel vibration.
4. Squeaks and Creeks on Door Panels, even if you just grip the handle.
5. Proximity Open, I have to wait several seconds for it to engage unlike my Tesla MY which appears instantaneous.
6. Motor whine when you floor it.
7. Happened only a few times, but it didn't seem like the vehicle charged sufficiently overnight (30-40 miles for 6 hours at 24 amps, normal should be about 80 miles).
8. Gen2 floor mats fit mostly fine, but a few areas are not snug or mat is too large and doesn't fit that well.
9. Very minor paint issues , but it doesn't bother me.

Took delivery of standard dual motor '25 R1S last Saturday, upgrades were forest green and dark ash wood interior. No issues aside from maybe a very slight panel thing on the roof, otherwise went through the delivery checklist swiftly. 2 year lease while I wait for R2S, main use will be 2nd car and occasional road trips with kids+dog.

Feels like I really have to slam doors hard to get them closed on the first try. I only have 100 miles on it, so they may need to get broken in a bit. Ride is pretty smooth, which is a welcome change from the Mach-E.

Audio quality is terrible compared to the B&O system in my Mach-E, but I was sort of expecting it since I don't have premium audio. I think there was an EQ setting thread a few weeks ago that I'll check out and try to optimize, but again, you get what you pay for and I knew going into it I wanted to keep lease payments low so opted for "standard" options aside from interior+paint, which are more quality of life things for me. Audio seems OK for more poppy songs / radio / podcasts but not great for death metal, FYI.

I have a ticket in for hood misalignment, all four corners are off. Also front passenger door to front fender.

I've also noticed that the steering wheel cover is not bonded to the rim, below the bottom spoke. I didn't notice that it bulges away for a few days, but once it did I find it annoying.

Is breaking in car doors so that they close properly a thing?

Fair point! I haven't ever had to do it in the past, so might get a service ticket up if it's still a thing after a few days.

Well well well….you got your performance dual before me…but I bet you didn’t get the dark out pack!!!! I’m just kidding, how is the quietness?
@bmwlad24, I had to go with the regular dual. I’m planning to do the software upgrade to performance when it becomes available. You can’t change the color, glass roof, or stereo later, so I got what I wanted on those fronts. (Very delayed reply, I know—I lost the thread.)

2025 R1S Max
Picked up my 25 R1S PDM Max a little over a week ago in Kansas City and have only had one issue so far. My heated steering wheel refuses to turn on, and after a quick troubleshooting session with phone support, have a mobile appointment scheduled for November.
Other than that, have been loving this truck. Coming from an 06 Tahoe, the modern technology is fantastic. Highway assist is a game changer and makes long trips a breeze. Plenty of free charging around me surprisingly, so haven't even had to use the wall charger much outside of making sure it works.

A minor annoyance after updating to .35 is the stupid seatbelt ding. Can we please have that shut off under 5mph? I refuse to buckle up to go the 150ft or so from my mailbox to the garage when getting home at the end of the day.

I’ve had my R1S tri max for under a week and I’ve just run into my first issue. The first few days the blind spot monitoring system and rear traffic warning system worked just fine. Indicators on the mirrors would light up when someone was in an adjacent lane, or when I was backing up I would get a warning that someone was approaching behind me.
Then seemingly out of nowhere I get the yellow icon saying that there’s an issue. And every time I reverse it says “rear cross traffic warning not available”. I’ve seen a couple of threads on this but not sure if there’s any conclusive fix other than a service appointment. I’ve gone ahead and scheduled a mobile appointment, next available isn’t until the 31st unfortunately but I guess I’ll just have to wait it out. I’ve tried an infotainment reset and a hard reset and the issue persists. I’ve also wiped down the cameras / sensors, the car is still quite clean.
Not a huge bug by any means, just a bit of a bummer when the car is so new!

Did this ever get resolved for you? Mine is in the shop right now with radar issue trying to be fixed, almost two weeks.

They got the part in but it was the wrong one so they expedited the correct part and I eventually was able to take delivery 3 weeks after the original delivery date. So far there have been no issues with the radar or driver plus. *Knock on wood*
My R1S is going to the service center in a couple weeks for faulty HVAC (no passenger side heat, occasional loud noise and vibrations), replace the middle row driver side seat due to stitching coming undone, rips in the covering of the center storage console lid, pedal vibration and noise when accelerating from a stop.
