Got a call today asking me to bring the car in for HV battery replacement. The car is only one month old and less than 1000 miles.......
They called you proactively?

Yes they call proactively. They said they run the diagnosis for every car and see the issue from my car. Wondering any 2025 Gen2 owner got calls recently too?
Wow. You'd never get that kind of service with an ICE vehicle. Imagine GM calling you to tell you to bring in your Yukon to have the gas tank replaced because they have some data that say's it might leak soon.

Well, that is discouraging. Sorry to hear that. That is a new pack size for this year too. I haven't seen a lot of those in the wild so to speak. It seems like more are either standard (LFP) or max.

What really frustrates me is the lack of information behind the replacement. The guy called me does not know anything but saying their engineering team spotted some issue and it needs to be replaced in a month. I kept on pressing the reason behind that and what the consequence of the issue, he finally agreed to ask more info for me from their engineering team. I am still waiting for the feedback.

Bummer about the battery but the proactive call is great. I had a proactive call for another item on my gen2. Service advisor only knew the engineering team said the item needed replacing. Like you I asked him to find out more details on the repair. He did so and provided the information to me via text then more when I picked up the vehicle. Hope you get this same level of service too.

Our RS1 died in the driveway on Sunday. Been in the service center all week. Just found out the high voltage battery has to be replaced due to an issue with the contactors. Trying to figure out how common this is. Rivian proactively came out and replaced the 12v battery in October and we had to take it in for some fix they wanted to do a month ago….

I don't think it's very common. Just bad luck that can apply to anything.

HV battery replacement isn't very common, it's quite rare actually.

Even your "battery" is not bad, the contactor (heavy duty relay that breaks/connects the 400V main power leads) is bad, but since Rivian put all the electronics inside the main battery case, it's not serviceable by SC personnel. Tesla took a different approach (or at least they used to, IDK what they do now) they put only the battery cells inside the battery case but put the electronics in the "penthouse" which sits on top of the battery case. The can replace contactors, etc.. if need be.
