Mine does the same thing, delivered in November. It is much better now than it was, but it still happens, somewhat regularly. Because of it, I still use Waze, usually put destination in R1T and Waze, and when the R1T tells me the next turn, I verify that instruction with Waze.

I labeled it dangerous because generating confusion for the driver does increase the likely hood of accidents. At a minimum it distracts the driver ever time it reroutes especially unexpectedly
I totally agree with you. Not sure why it’s so hard to understand for some. I’m guessing most people use Nav to get to unfamiliar locations. The bouncing/overshooting inaccuracy once led to a re-route while I was getting off an unfamiliar off ramp. As a result, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to turn left or right leading to said confusion. I thought I missed a turn or took the wrong exit for a moment. Some drivers might try to correct and change lanes unnecessary and potentially dangerously.

It’s definitely annoying and can be dangerous.

Picked up my R1T last Friday. The GPS is unusable for navigation if coming to stop signs or street lights. The GPS jumps past intersections every time you come to a stop, reroutes and doesn’t re lock on your actual position. While moving it is fine. I was gonna give it another couple weeks to see if software update fixes it before I take it in.

I'm feeling a bit cantankerous this evening, so here goes! :)

So you miss your turn. Nav will re-route you. Big deal! Sorry, but if you can't cope with unexpected situations whilst driving, maybe you shouldn't be.

I swear "Young people these days!"

I’m curious how many people actually have this issue.

I’ve used the nav a lot and usually have the map up even if I do not have a trip set. I’ve never once observed this behavior. That includes extensive nav usage driving through 23 states on my maiden voyage.

We can agree to disagree and let’s just say I’m glad your Rivian doesn’t have this issue. Only 1/2 of my Rivians does.

I posted this is in another thread but here is an egregious re-route caused by the GPS bounce/forward lurch or whatever you want to call it:

Rivian R1T R1S GPS position "jumping" around... 1694062908893

This was in a large, busy urban area amidst city traffic. This is a 5 lane major street. The middle lane is a turn lane most of the day, but in the mornings it’s one way south and in the afternoons it’s one way north. I remember being in the left lane, slowed due to traffic, and then was starting to accelerate for the green light. Nav is suddenly telling me to turn right for no reason. This is confusing. A driver not familiar with the area relying on Nav might try to change lanes in traffic to make that right not wanting to get lost in an unfamiliar city.

Nav and inaccurate GPS should not make things confusing for a driver.

You don’t have to agree it’s dangerous. That’s fine. Like I said, glad you don’t have the problem. Others with this bug may disagree. We can disagree cantankerous-free. ???

Maybe it's just me, but (assuming the arrow at the bottom is the actual position and direction of the car) it's obvious to me, at least, that you just want to continue traveling straight ahead. I mean it's strange and ought to be reported to Rivian but I personally don't think it's that confusing.

If the car's position doesn't match what shown on the Nav screen, well that's a different kettle of fish!

Mine does this almost every time I come to a stop (it's like it's trying to 'predict' my follow-thru), but it'll do the same as everyone here is explaining: it'll reroute me until it sees that I'm going the correct way (actually make the turn it's recommending).

I assumed it was just a software glitch that would be 'eventually' corrected. But if there's a chance that it's a problem I should probably film the issue and put in ANOTHER service ticket...

I swear, I got a Friday build...

So far:
1- wheel misalignment from factory (pulled to the right--fixed in Brooklyn). Doesn't feel completely 'fixed' but it's good enough and I bet you'd need an extended drive to really determine it's there; so I don't bother pushing the issue.
2- dented passenger A-pillar tweeter (fixed at the same time in Brooklyn)
3- Botched paint pen touch up, front 'grille area' (I ended up canceling that one and just had my detailer make it look nice enough before he covered the area with PPF anyway)
4- Broken door handle cup, rear passenger door (still not fixed; was attempted as a mobile service item--I was told it needs body work to correct--it's on the docket for November in Gaithersburg)
5- swelled gaskets causing front quarter panel to flare in the heat (mobile service re-aligned all panels)
6- split in the cap that retains the projected light under the mirror (fixed via mobile service--originally they wanted to charge me, but mobile tech wrote it off)
7- found a piece of rubber hanging under the front right tire during my first wash. Mobile service was unable to determine where that came from. It was wedged between the body panels, but he says he's never seen a part like that. No resolution, but unknown what it was for
8- AC was intermittent, then wouldn't work when hot. Same issue as everyone else was having--overcharged system from factory (Fixed in Gaithersburg)
9- Rear passenger window trim coming loose (scheduled for November)
10- front passenger door dent formed under handle; seems like a common anomaly. I had a ticket in, but my detailer had his PDR guy pull it out for me, as the service advisor who called me was 'investigating it' and wanted to make it seem like my fault (just an impression I got--I wasn't going to pay for it)
11- Whistling noise when highway driving. It's intermittent. Technically I have a ticket in, but they currently have it as a $200 diagnostic fee on the work order I'm supposed to approve. I'm not signing that.
12- I still have the due bill for the Air Compressor display bug
13- Now this GPS issue?
14- I also had mobile service come out to install the spare tire (because apparently you can't just have them ship it to you), and my mobile service tech pretty much slammed the wheel into the ground (just negligence, honestly--I don't believe malice), so the back of my 'spare' tire (which is currently installed ON my car due to me doing 5 wheel rotations) has some good gouges/scratches in it. I got a call from someone after I answered the email survey I got from my guide giving them a shitty rating for that, and all I got was a half-hearted apology, but no offer to do anything to replace that wheel or fix it...

OP here. I'm actually surprised by the number of people that have this issue AND that it's been a challenge to fix for many. I certainly don't recall any vehicle I've owned displaying this behavior, which is why it threw me. I'll keep everyone posted when I finally take it to the SC. And R1Thor, best of luck with that list!

Yeah, please let us know if that's a service-fix or if it's a software bug so we can all act accordingly.

THANKS!

Wassym (Rivian software head) commented on Reddit:

Navigation marker continues to move after stopping in update 23.30.0

this is vehicle specific issue - but we are working on potential SW workaround to reconfigure these vehicles

Chiming in to say I’ve had this issue since day 1 as well on my R1S. I have an upcoming service appointment for something else and I might as well add this on to see what they say or do.

Add me to the list of people with a gps marker that bounces around after coming to a stop, it's definitely annoying when it makes the nav reroute
