How far have you drained your battery before charging.

I think I got mine to 14mi remaining prior to arrival home.

I'm not fond of the idea of running out with kids in the car.

The lowest distance is 7 miles. I was towing my boat, and it was getting a bit nerve-racking to try to get to the next RAN charging station.

Surprised no one has yet to post a story of completely running out of charge in the middle of nowhere.

A couple of weeks ago, was driving home from Michigan, we normally stop at RAN in Maumee, OH. We dropped off my sons car at Tesla supercharger in Findlay, OH on the way up. Decided to not stop twice, R1S said 11 miles left upon arrival. That lowered to 4 miles left at arrival and about 1 miles off the exit received a warning message that vehicle was reducing power to conserve range. Never saw that before, and we were already in Conserve mode.

Curious to how close others have come to “zero”.
I suggest you consider the likelihood Rivian knows more about best plans than you. Read the manual. After 10 years in 3 Teslas I can say with certainty when Tesla says range reduction is adversely affected by using Level 3 charging, Charging to or near 100% and running the battery near to empty - they are correct. I don't plug in every day, but I don't drive everyday either - I am retired. I charge to 80% by default and I never have charged my current Tesla to 100%.

I have been down to 0% 0 miles to go and was able to get another 1 to 1.5 miles on that before I got home.

I talked to Rivian service rep about this. He said Amazon trucks freqeuntly drain to zero battery and that typically there is a few mikes left in vehicle when it hits zero. He said has no ill effect on battery as long as not using 12 v battery because main battery totally empty. Sounds like good idea to avoid but if hitting zero happens not a disaster

Lowest we got to was about 25 miles 1 time.

My R1T is my daily driver and I drive 145 miles to work 1 day a week and stay locally and then go home a couple days later. A perk of my job is that I get free charging (free for me as in I don't have to pay, it is a perk of my employer). I had to say the last part because I have mentioned it before on other groups and I get ripped by some "Karens" that "Do people that have ICE cars get free gas......huh.....huh.....huh?.

So when I leave work I have about 290 miles of charge and I arrive home at about 130 miles (I drive 70 to 75 the whole way....also, I work in S.F. bay area and traffic SUCKS!)

I was towing a trailer and got to zero about 4 miles before the exit to a level 3 charger. It slowed us down to about 30 mph. Made it to the charger though without incident. Went about 4.5-5 miles total from zero. Although it was an Ev go and they suck and it kept stopping the charge (not rivians fault). We were able to charge to 80ish% and make it to camping without a problem.

Draining your battery to or close to 0% (and charging to or close to 100% for most types) can be detrimental to the pack. So the story goes.
The overall recommendation is to keep your vehicle pack charged between 20% and 80%.
When on long trips, I myself stick to that unless absolutely necessary or no choice.
On my long trip yesterday, I had the choice to push my EV farther and get to a charger at 3% or take the closer charger arriving at 23%. I chose the latter.

For the 90%+ daily use when it comes to charging, I definitely always stick to that.
I see that my EV from trip yesterday woke up this morning at 20% SOC. Time to plug it in.

Went down to 11 miles a couple of trips, and prayed that the charging stations were working when i arrived...which fortunately they were. Most of time, like others, don't let it get to the below 50 mile range where Rivian sends me a text as well as on screen tells you you need to charge. Have taken it below 30, where it again gives you more "reminders" to find a charger.

Shortly after I first got R1T Max about a year ago I trusted the "remaining miles" counter when I was about 60 miles out and should have had about 10 miles left on arrival. I was going through a charger desert and my lowest risk option was to hypermile home. I quickly found out that mile "remaining miles" counter ALWAYS come up short and about 4 miles out, I had 0 miles left. A portion was downhill, and I made it without problem. Definitely on restricted power, but it still accelerated well enough to keep up with traffic. It felt like there were a few miles left... I got a bit over 360 highway miles that day and replicated that trip at a bit more conservative speeds and landed with single digits. Not something I recommend or I am particularly proud of, but since you asked...
