The purpose of idle fees is to keep people from hogging the charging space when they no longer need to charge. If you wait until the station gets congested, it might not be enough notice for the a-hole to move his car.So you're talking about a totally non-related station with no fees ever? Good job. That's a different thread.
And then the station is full, and there the a-hole sits, hogging the space. Sure, they get charged when the station is busy, but they don't have much incentive to prevent the problem if the fee only happens when the station is busy.
Whatever, we are going around in circles. I hate charger hogs, and idle fees are the best way to get rid of the charger hogs.
The root of this problem is not idle fees. It is the state of our charging infrastructure. It sucks. People like to say it is fine, and road tripping is relaxing in a BEV, but nobody likes to get up in the middle of the night to move their vehicle when the charging is finished. I have done it, because I am considerate, but it sucks. It is NOT relaxing.
And it is definitely not relaxing when you arrive at a charging station to find it is occupied by fully charged a-holes.
