I love the Quad Motor whine and the comfort of 20" All Terrains.

I am head over heels for my Quad Motor Launch Edition especially after the most recent suspension update.

Get a road force balancing done at Discount Tire / install the heavier steering wheel from the service center (if you qualify) and that should resolve most of the steering wheel shake.
Same for me. Sure at 42k my 20" tires make some noise but it's a truck so I don't find it unusual. Otherwise I love everything about the thing...including the tires. Also I have what must be first gen damper/spring assemblies and they would perfectly now with the software update. Smooth....

I must be living in blissful ignorance. Going on 27 months and I seldom hear any noise from the tires. Also no steering wheel shake. I feel the difference after both comfort updates but in a "whatever" type of way.
Sure, motor whine and wind noise, but that just makes me enjoy the Meridian system more. I remember when they pitched motor whine as a feature.

Like they say; ignorance is bliss!

Took delivery of a 24 R1T with 20" tires yesterday and for now the tire noise is very low. Seats are ICE cold indeed - I had to dial back to 1 on a 99 degree day :)

After 4 months of waiting my turn at the local SC arrived.
I dropped my adventure QM R1T on 21's Vin 21XXX off for warranty work and was given a loaner.

It's a Launch edition in green on the 20's VIN is a very low 16XX with about 20k miles.

I was surprised at the differences I noticed:

1.) motors/whine MUCH louder (part of that is probably the A/T tire noise) but my truck is way quieter/cleaner on accel. steering also vibrates slightly from tires too. I felt like I needed the audio to drown out the NVH. where as my truck I can drive with nothing playing at all.

2.) Sound system is much better (I expected this one)

3.) the vented seats are like ICE compared to mine .. I can keep mine on Level 3 all the time and it feels cool at best.. I felt like Level 2 was enough and L3 was starting to get TOO cold through my back.

4.) suspension seems way softer and more compliant than mine.. Going over the same speed bumps I take everyday, the launch edition feels like a trophy truck and could take the bumps 10-15 mph faster than mine.

This one really surprised me, sure some of it could be accounted for by the Sidewalls of the offroad tire, but my Truck feels way stiffer over the bumps and Bucks as you hit them.. the loaner felt like I was driving a raptor. in the same All Purpose mode with suspension on soft at normal ride height. I wonder if the suspension tuning is different as well as part of the off-road package?

I wonder if there were small changes along the way or what.
Not sure where to butt in ….
Sorry if I’m OT but can anyone recommend a Rivian-approved electric road tire for our QM LE T?
The scorpion AT are surprisingly smooth and not bad all around but we don’t do much if any dirt.
Too bad we were always on conserve our first 20k - it took the fronts down twice as fast as the rears.
We’re now AP except for on certain flat hiways

No one has mentioned tire pressure. Changing the pressure can make a bigger difference than changing the tire. I can make my 21s feel softer than my 20s by lowering the pressure below recommended. When I first got my new set of 21s they only inflated them to 32psi. It was like riding on a cloud. Can't leave them that low because it is dangerous and would wear really fast.
It is possible that your loaner is running several PSI lower than your regular. At equal/proper pressure the 20's would still feel softer. But I did not think it was that pronounced. I strongly prefer the ride of the 21's
The 20s are slightly noisier when new but get quite a bit louder after 5k miles or so. I found that rotating them helped the noise. I did a full X rotation so that they would turn the opposite direction.

Can anyone comment on the ICE cold vented seats? I have a 22 R1T delivered in August 2022. That first Summer, the seats were ICE cold. Loved it. Then the next summer they were barely cool and couldn't keep up with the heat. Same for this summer.

I've put in tickets for it and had it at the SC a couple times for it and the techs say that its normal. But something definitely changed. Anyone else have a similar situation/fix?

Having an early LE with AT tires and now a much later Max Pack Dual with the 21" road tires, all of this post seems right on the money.

Much of the suspension stuff is the tires. The motor whine though, yep, that's a thing in comparison. I'm also surprised you didn't mention wind noise. ?
shoot, I thought the wind noise was my imagination...

+1 to all the tire comments, but coming from a 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler before that, I love the sound of those tires.... the fact that you can hear them is a testament to the quietness of the vehicle.

I've got about 15k miles on my OE AT tires...they've been very noisy since around 10k miles to the point I'd love to just replace them. This was even more obvious while I was running winter tires and they were basically silent. So what some perceive as motor noise could easily just be tire noise/whine instead...the Pirellis are awful in that regard. My VIN is nearly 20xxx on an early 2023 R1T. This last software update also made the standard height / all-purpose / soft ride *significantly* better...so if there's any difference in software version right now that could make a big difference too.

Can confirm this. Had a bad shake on certain road surfaces, SC did a road force balance and replaced the steering wheel (Dec 22 build) and it's 80% better. They said I had flat spots in the tires, but I'm holding out until I replace them all with something better, I'm on the 22"s though.

It's mainly the tire and sidewall.

I have all 3 versions for R1S and R1T. 21s are way better riding than 22's, but are no match for the 20s. Problem with the 20s is they have more steering wheel shake due to the weight. I have a set of atomic 20s for range with larger sidewall than 21s but match 21s diameter and they are the goldilocks zone if not offroading.

Also confirm that Meridian is way better than in house crap.
FWIW, Wheel shake due to any tires is NOT normal. If you have it, I would take it to your local tire shop, or Rivian, and insist that they balance them at a higher speed. My truck with 20" A/T had some shake above 75 mph when I first got it, and I made them rebalance the tires twice before they got it out of it.... But it can absolutely be eliminated. As other people have suggested, I have even larger tires on my 10-year-old, 150K mile Wrangler, and it also does NOT shake.

I just wanna comment on the ventilated seats. My LE’s have been working very well. I only turn on level 3 when I first got in the sun baked car on the hottest days. After 10 minutes, I can switch it back to level 1.

Regarding the "cooled seats", they aren't . R1 vehicles (gen 1 at least) are ventilated only, not cooled. The temperature you're experiencing is purely a result of the ambient temperature in the vehicle. Perhaps they're moving less air than they used to because the seats themselves are simply collecting dust / getting dirty and the fans just can't push as much air through?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The 'cooling' works a heck of a lot better when you have the rear seat floor AC on.

Do both trucks have the newest update? That has changed the suspension quite a bit. I agree with the others, tread and side walls make a big difference.
