I use it 2x per week on my commutes on the 405 in the carpool lane and aside from slightly pulling to one side or the other, it's fine and hasn't "tried to kill me." And I think the pulling is due to the poor condition of the lanes since there are "lines" all over the place.

I have adaptive cc on my Bolt EUV and I find it brakes a little gentler, but it could be due to vehicle weight.

I live in a high traffic area full of suicidal drivers so don't get to use it very often. I sometimes forget it's even an option. Biggest issue, the few times I've used it, was I felt it shouldn't stay in the middle of the lane when passing a huge truck. Maybe slide over a bit, give it some room? Not sure does Tesla or others do this? ?

In any case, imagine I'd use it more if we lived out in the country like some of y'all blessed folks do. ?

Love my R1T, but driver+ less so. So far;

Random braking
Immediate shut off without warning
Hard pulls to left at highway speeds, into barrier
Incorrectly following old lines in the road, straight into barrier

I swear to god, its playing a game with me. The thing is possessed!

Doing a 4K trip right now and I’m 1k into it. I’d say Driver+ drove about 700 miles. Philly out west, it has been fantastic. Worked on the vast majority of roads and you just need to understand that it wants you to take over when going in tunnels, temp roads set up while the main ones are being worked on, when it’s raining really hard, when the markings on the road are poor, or on secondary roads. Sometimes it would not engage but trying again immediately or 5 sec later would. If you try 3 times within 30 sec and it does not work, likely won’t work on that portion of the road - try again in 3-5 min. Once engaged, it stays engaged no problem. Am I one of the lucky ones that it works well for me?? I have driven MY w FSD and Driver+ is not in the same category, but I’d say on highways it’s 90% there. Oh, and way less phantom braking than FSD. 24 R1S

I've only had my R1T for two months, and have used Driver+ only on occasion. Quite honestly, it's a pretty unimpressive system and even though I've used it only a few times, have experienced many of the annoyances that others have, such as shutting off randomly and braking for no apparent reason. IMO, it's a basically functional system who's performance lags behind almost all others, and is one of the few weak points of the Rivian.

Like the OP, I also have a Telluride and even though the tech level of the Kia is far lower than the Rivian, the Driver Assist in that car is quite a bit better. I am hopeful that Rivian will improve their system and get it at least close to Kia level in the not too distant future.

Funny after 17k miles, majority on highways using the system I haven't had any issues like this. Then again I would never let go of the wheel or give up control. I believe Tesla FSD is too dangerous to be out there and don't want to use it in anyone's vehicle at this point in time.

Agree 100%. This is one of Rivian’s Achilles heel (Nav being the other one).

I live in the Salt Lake area and I think it works great. The only problem I’ve ever had is driving in the car pool lane when it goes from a single dashed line (for entry and exit) to double lines. It gets a little confused when the lane suddenly shrinks.

I have learned to limit my Driver+ use to relatively tame environments. There is a stretch of about 15 miles on my work commute that is relatively free of weird merges, lane realignments, and road construction. Driver+ handles it well and makes for a pleasant ride.

Curvy roads are an exercise in frustration because it slows way down in the curves and vehicles in adjacent lanes tend to trigger phantom braking. Passing a big rig is a white-knuckle experience since it doesn't know how to move over within the lane to give a truck a bit more space.

Slow traffic is a toss-up. Sometimes it is a relief to hand over to Driver+ on a slow-moving freeway. However, the reactive nature of it's acceleration and braking can make for a very uneven ride and tends to leave big gaps that tempt aggressive lane changers.

TLDR; it makes easy drives easier and hard drives harder.

I use it constantly, and I am able to anticipate it's behavior when I see something ambiguous like old grinded off lane lines or possibly even tar snakes if lines are faded. Then I take over. Phantom braking is my only complaint.

I use it every day I drive into the office (141+ mile round trip and most of it highway). It's verily predictable, verily comfortable, and somewhat confidence inspiring that I have a 'backup' in the event my attention span leaves the road for a moment.

The only issues I've ever encountered are 1- roadwork: if the lanes are intentionally jogged, there have been times the truck waited (in my opinion) way too long to correct, and I ended up taking over, and 2- the occasional (but not since the last 2 or 3 updates has it been an issue) disengagement due to unmapped highway portions.

I dislike the slowing around corners, and occasionally I wish the system would NOT center me in the lane when adjacent lane vehicles are drifting into my lane, but it's still pretty awesome in my opinion. I do occasionally have the phantom braking (typically when the system thinks a car in an adjacent lane is actually in my lane when it isn't), but I've noticed this has improved in spades over time. Instead of it happening every trip, it happens 1/10th of the time and seems a tad less aggressive (I'm not as worried about being rear-ended because the truck decides to just STOP).

In some ways it's better than my previous Volvo. In others, I'd prefer the Volvo. It's not a panacea, but I do believe it's getting better over time.

Anyway, just thought I'd offer a different opinion for those on the fence about it.

The sensationalist view that your vehicle swerves and 'ping pongs' is not normal. I think you might need a calibration or to clean your cameras if, in fact, it's as egregious as you're reporting. The only time I experience that behavior is if I try to use the accelerator to move closer to a vehicle in front of me, and at that point, I think the system is just not optimized for that following distance, so if I'm taking over, I'll take over the steering too...

It's far from the near flawless abilities of Tesla Autopilot, but I haven't experienced any real threats. It has annoyances, mostly in the form of simply refusing to work for a variety of reasons. It's the most disappointing thing about going from a Tesla to Rivian, and I definitely would never do it other than needing a truck.

Let's play a game in which Rivian owners take this opportunity to learn what Driver+ is and is not.
Driver+ is the full suite of features including Driving Assist, Lane Safety, Light Safety, Parking & Reverse, and Collision Mitigation. Highway Assist is just one of the features (but I suspect it is the one that the OP is complaining about).
