There’s a lot of discussion regarding taking up two parking spots in order to charge a Rivian at Tesla stations. I’m curious: do they make a level 3 extension cord? I’ve done a search but all of them seem to be level 2. Anyone have one? Where did you get it?
A2Z is making one, go on their site and sign up for updates.

Do route planners include the ability to avoid Tesla chargers? They should.
Yes, you can pick which networks to prefer and which to avoid.

ABRP can give strange results under any circumstances:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/should-i-get-abrp-premium.28142/#post-547231

Some of ABRP's suggested long-distance plans get even less realistic when the user discourages (let alone forbids) Tesla chargers.

I haven't found a single planner that allows the user to just "dial in" long trips without applying critical judgment to the proposed plan.

For now, I start with Apple Maps or Google Maps to determine the most advantageous route if charging time didn't matter among routes. Then ABRP's Web version to get an idea of total road time including charging. Then PlugShare to research alternative charging locations along the way.

Preparation takes a while, but the actual trip is about as stress-free as EV travel can get.

Best wishes!

This.

A lot of unanswered questions, although I did not investigate so maybe there are answers. DCFC fast charger cables include cooling and temperature sensors in the connector for obvious safety reasons. Extension cables have neither.

Based on my use case, it's unlikely I will ever charge at a Tesla station. If I do, I'll deal with any parking space challenges that might arise.

First, that’s not a Tesla SuperCharger. Second, saying there is “no extension cable” that includes the temp and cooling safeguards is an odd statement since not are offered yet. And A2Z, a very good company, has stated that they are building those same safe guards into the extension cable. If you don’t want one, that’s great. One more free space for those of us who use the SC network without issues or problems.

I’m also on A2Z’s waitlist for the extension cable. After spending $80k for a new R1T it seems a little foolish to balk at spending $300 (0.375% of the new truck cost) in order to charge at any NACS without the headache of all the complications.
Why do people keep saying they are on some list? There is only a way to sign up to be notified when it’s available by email. Am I missing something or are you all just wanting to feel important? Lol

LOL, I did not say it was a Telsa Supercharger. The discussion was about the potential hazards of charging with an extension cable, and the picture shows what can happen when DCFC goes wrong. Sorry you are reading more into the picture than face value of a burned Rivian.

"Odd statement" for me to say that there is no extension cable with temperature and cooing safegaurds, when it is 100% factual.... and then you confirm it saying "since not (sic) are offered yet". Something's odd here, and it is not my statement, lol.

If you had read post #59 you’d know that @natedogg pointed out that I had misspoke and it is just a notification list. And yes I do feel important. :)

How many gas stations have you been to where you pull up to the pump at the front or rear of the vehicle?….why not just make all EV chargers pull through, the same as gas pumps, and all these issues go away?
This x100.

I rarely use DCFC, but recently needed to when towing a trailer. The world really wants me to spend 45 minutes unhooking, then rehooking so I can correctly line up at a charger for 15 minutes??

Killing me over here.

100% we need options for those of us who use the tow hitch!

A properly designed extension cable is going to have a thermal breaker at both ends, and that will interrupt the pilot signal if it trips. The charger is then responsible for immediately stopping the charge session. These are passive devices.

Hard to say that's really going to be adequate once the cable is well worn though.
The Tesla adapters have a temp sensor that transmits to the charger on the control pilot. Then they can throttle the power from the charger.. An extension cable from Tesla will have the same thing and will likely almost always have a reduced power. This additional sensor basically works like the ones built into the charger plugs today.

We'll get there with pull thru's. Just so much cheaper to have all the electrical work on the edge of a parking lot. The answer is always money.

This looks like most recent thread on Tesla extensions. I stopped to use a Tesla charger in Sisters, OR. According to supercharger.info it's a V3. Wasn't a magic dock, so pretty sure not a V4. Cable reached to charge without taking two spots. Another Rivian was charging, same in one spot.

Longer cables on some superchargers?

Depends also on placement of the cabinet in relation to the spot it is meant for.
