"Not give money to Elon" could be some of the dumbest decision-making I've heard of. I plan to charge where it benefits ME the most and has the lowest cost and friction. I'm not going to penalize myself in order to avoid giving $2 to someone who doesn't give one shit if I do. Crazy.

I've used Superchargers around 60 times, and have ONE failure. That required me to remove the connector and reconnect, and it took NEARLY 20 seconds (!) to reset. Horrors. Meanwhile, I have not ever had one fully perfect charging session with a J1772 or CCS charger. Not a single one (but I've only done those around 10 times). Every time I've looked at rates, EA has been much more expensive than Supercharging.

Some of you sound like five year olds who aren't going to do something, just to spite your parents.

Also I'm not going to buy an extension. I did order a pair of fold-up cones and will put them out if I block a charger. Two reasons; courtesy, and maybe avoid confrontational morons. Although at the same time, I'm perfectly happy with telling an asshole what I think of his opinion. So mostly courtesy, so nobody pulls in thinking it's a usable space.
Good idea on the cone. Better than a $300 cable that may be mostly useless once majority of chargers have longer cables. Also, mitigate frustration from someone pulling in (and losing spot in line) only to find out they can't charge.

I don't plan on buying an extension cable. I just park centered with the Tesla Station and ignore the painted lines. "I don't color inside the lines either." Some stations already are centered in the lines though. No need to park entirely in the next space and block a second to the right like Fords need to. Alternatively just park next to another CCS car as well.

We've been dealing with this problem at CCS stations since the dawn of CCS stations. Sometimes you pull up to a station but you can't use the only post that reaches your charge port because the person in the next stall over is using it to reach theirs. This isn't a new problem, it's just a new problem for Tesla owners.

Sorry Tesla owners, welcome to the club!

I plan to avoid Tesla chargers as much as possible. I don’t feel welcome there and I’m not keen on giving Elon any of my money. He has plenty.

Do route planners include the ability to avoid Tesla chargers? They should.

Plus, keeping away lowers my odds of suffering prolonged exposure to a cybertruck.
You can select which charger brand you want to show up in the nav. I’ve only used one Tesla supercharger and it was a good experience. People were coming up and asking me about my truck. It may have been different if I was taking up multiple spots but I was on an end spot. The first super charger I went to on my trip had teslas taking up two spots. It was bizarre. I had never seen anything like that after driving a Tesla for 5 years. I don’t know if they were all drunk because it was at Morongo Casino. I ended up using a EA charger at the outlets next door.

It does not mean it is the norm at all, of course, but in my travels, this issue of taking up to spaces to charge has been a much ado about nothing. Each time, the Tesla supercharger locations have been fairly empty, two or three vehicles at most. Not an issue taking up two spaces to charge my R1S.

Give your money to Elon or give it to somebody else, probably more to the latter.
I have heard plenty of horror stories about other DC fast chargers other than Teslas; not working, most of them down, unreliable. Probably something I would not want to find out should I limp up on my R1S to some brand x charger with no charge left just to find out that it does not work. Tough luck?
Tesla superchargers have a reliability that is second to none. I know that a Tesla supercharger will be there, working, ready when I get there. Not perfect, by any means, but it is exceedingly rare that one would find a Tesla charger disabled. And there is always a bunch of them to choose from.
EA has been fine in my experience. No issues at all, except for the horrible scam prices for electricity. I use something other than Tesla chargers only when absolutely necessary.

My negative experiences with EA is mostly due to demand, too few charger for too many cars that use them. To avoid the crowds, I would have to go super early or super late. With the Supercharger half a mile apart from EA, I don't have to be as selective. Majority of the Tesla owners pay no mind, because there are 16 chargers to pick from. They don't have to park next to me if they don't want to. And if any of them have a problem, they keep it to themselves. I've had fellow Rivian owners tell me I shouldn't own an EV if I can't charge at home. Sorry, but that's a bit elitist on the receiving end. A basic cookie cutter home here can cost $1M. A small 1BR condo here can cost north of $600k (and no garage or carport where you can install a EVSE). A manufactured home in a trailer park can cost what a mansion costs in some states. The idea that you have to be rich to drive an EV, is partially what is wrong with the entire auto/EV-industry.

There are some EV owners that may not know enough about charging. Statements like this one are at best reckless and very dangerous.

Knowing that there may be up to what, 570 A running out of a DC fast charger and at 400 V, I do not care if Tesla or the EV god designed and created an extension cable/cord for it. No, thanks. Will stick to the short supercharger cable and take two spots any time, any day. Safety first always.

When you put it like that, it’s definitely something to think about.

I’m also on A2Z’s waitlist for the extension cable. After spending $80k for a new R1T it seems a little foolish to balk at spending $300 (0.375% of the new truck cost) in order to charge at any NACS without the headache of all the complications.
Is there actually a waitlist or did you just sign up to be notified when it is available?

Your’re right. It’s just a notification list, not a waitlist.
