Tesla has a complete set of NEMA charging Adaptors 7 total. Why doesn't Rivian have the same? We get 2.

Here is what Tesla provides (additional cost)

Includes:

  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 5-20 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 6-15 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 6-20 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 10-30 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 14-30 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 14-50 Adapter
  • 1x Gen 2 NEMA 6-50 Adapter
To increase charging flexibility rivian needs to make the same available.

How do we make this happen?

How to make it happen - submit feedback to Rivian and maybe they'll listen.

Reality - Rivian provides the portable charger to make sure the average customer has an option to charge at home. Their cost to develop and supply additional adapters with such low demand would probably not gain them any profit. And since there are already aftermarket chargers and DCFC to fill this need, this will probably not be a priority.

I think these were needed 5 or more years ago since DC charging was scarce. I don't think it's really needed by the average EV driver now. Yes there may be some unique cases but they can just buy an adapter on Amazon or use the Tesla ones.

Its rare that these are needed and Rivian knows very few will be sold. If you need one of these you can always buy the Tesla mobile charger and the right head for it. As a sign that even Tesla isn't interested in selling these, the 10-30 should not be used, those receptacles are not code-compliant anymore. Tesla doesn't even offer a TT-30 adapter, even though that is found in many campgrounds. For L2 charging, adapters are available for the Rivian 14-50 connector for whatever you need.

They are on the Tesla site. They are pigtails just like the changeable one on the Rivian portable EVSE. I had four of them, for all of the plugs I might run into.

Yeah, I bought some adapters when I got my truck but I have yet to use them or my portable charger. I installed a charger at home and charging infrastructure has got way better in the last two years. Only need I see for the portable is camping some place that has power or if you are at a rental house that has some kind of outlet to use. I got some adapters from this place for the most common outlets you might encounter. https://evseadapters.com/
If I was going to buy any other portable charger it would probably be this one as it’s 40amp capable and comes with all the adapters needed.

It also comes in j1772 or nacs for future proofing.

I had hoped to use them at camp grounds / RV parks etc but the last few years since I’ve gotten the truck I haven’t been able to do any camping or those kind of road trips. It’s been all highways and hotels. Hoping to make 2025 more adventurous!

I’ve suggested a few times for people that are interested in these different outlet types to buy a Tesla portable EVSE and an A2Z Stellar plug to convert that to J-1772 for the Rivian.

Me too. I use the 14-30 and 6-20 at family members' homes. It's a great system and pretty well priced.

You can use "step down" adapters to mate the 14-50P on your Rivian mobile connector to the different lower amp 240v receptacles, but it's not ideal since you have to manually set the amps in the truck to avoid blowing the circuit.
