Most bug stuff is nasty and backpackers know to keep it away from nylons and plastics. Pretty amazing how quickly it was diagnosed.

After having some friends ride in the 3rd row of our R1S, I noticed A LOT of white smeared on the armrests - they had just put on a natural sunscreen with a lot of pigment. I swear it was like a two year-old got hold of an open tube of Desitin and was playing Picasso with my black interior! It took a bunch of wipes to get it cleaned off.

I noticed something similar on my truck recently. It seems like there’s some sort of coating that is sprayed onto the grayish plastic panels. The other day I was cleaning out the truck and I noticed it peeling away on the passenger side door sill. I was wondering if there is a product out there that matches the coloring to do a quick DIY fix.

plastidip spray if you can find in grey, maybe

I was shocked that the first response nailed it. I tried to figure out what caused it, but I couldn't come up with anything. When DEET was mentioned, it was like a movie flashback to the week before, when I covered myself with DEET because I was out on an overcast day with no wind and near a tree line.

I only know about the DEET solvent effects because i learned the hard way - luckily not on my car.

Applied a bunch of it, then ended up covered in paint that it was stripping off a beach volleyball i was holding.

I use a picaridin based lotion now for bug repellent.

DEET, Suntan lotion, even some hand moisturizer lotions can do this. I recall a similar post here about 4 - 6 months ago, it was thought that it was a lotion product his wife was using. Tough call as to whether this really is a warranty item or "normal" wear and tear not covered by warranty? I could see Rivian going in either direction if they have enough warranty claims for this.
