Yes. It says replacement like a million times including where it says. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I am going to start using it daily in the hopes of it fully breaking soon.
I’m with you. I have purposely stopped using mine even though it has worked fine when I have had to use it. Rivian knows it’s a flawed design and all of them should be replaced otherwise it’s bound to malfunction at some point with the risk that it does so after the warranty expires. They need to stick to the email that was sent out last year. This is reminiscent of the attempt to raise prices on preorders which they ultimately caved on . I thought they had learned their lesson. Hopefully they will clarify the messaging soon.

fix vs replace? thats making assumptions. you don't know if they are or are not interchanging the two words. as long as it works when they are done with it, whats the big deal? and only some need to be fixed right away because they are dead in the water. if it works, keep using it. if it works 80%, 50%, 30%, thats your call if you want to make an appointment. im sure Rivian will handle each case by case and do whats right.

extending the warranty? of course that would have been a nice gesture but they cant keep making exceptions for everything. i think them honoring the existing warranty is reasonable, even for those whose covers dont work or haven't been using it in fear of it breaking.

I don't have a PTC but here's a solution for you, if you want Rivian to replace your 'old' PTC:

1. smash the shit out of it
2. claim "it just stopped working like all the other ones"
3. Get new one under warranty

You're welcome.

Reading some people's comments online, some people want their cover replaced, and feel entitled to it, even if its working. I can't blame Rivian fo being careful with their wording. Service centers are backed up as it is, replacing every broken cover will take time, and if they were to replace the working ones would take even longer. Every hour spent on a working tonneau is an hour not spent on other issues. I can also see a small percentage people trying to intentionally break or abuse their working tonneaus to get a new one.

My personal frustration is from the fact they informed everyone with issues to stop contacting support because they were working on a new design and now that the new design is here they are saying they are only replacing the ones for folks with open service tickets. Based on the conflicting messaging there are probably a lot of folks out there with broken and/or degraded PTC that don't currently have a ticket open.

AND, on top of all this, the current support article says to keep using/contact service if you have issues. Several folks (me included) who just went and opened service tickets with broken/degraded tonneau covers are now having the those service tickets closed with support saying essentially. "we are not ready, don't call us, we will call you" . This is a hot mess.

If you put in a ticket now, it will be at least a year before it gets replaced with how backed up the service centers are...

If they replace only broken ones, I will give it an year and then start using daily. Or a few times a day.

I'm not worried. I have Tony's email from last September promising a replacement. Warranty or not, if they don't honor that initial promise, I'll happily join the pitchfork brigade. In practice I'm pretty confident they'll make OG PTC owners whole.

I'm less confident it will happen anytime soon due to the service chokehold, so I do plan to submit a ticket and start using my tonneau with less hesitation. It currently "works" but like many of us, I feel like I'm rolling the dice with every push of the button.

If I read it correctly, the new design is not a totally new cover. They're just replacing the bad parts (sub-components) with a better-designed ones and call it a day, hence the look and function of the new ones is the same as said. I'm fine with that. Just the part about not extending warranty bothers me some - for the owners who stopped using them as instructed since last year.

Mine is still working and I love it. I'd pay for a new one even if Rivian didn't cover it under warranty.

I don't think your crazy. I also don't think Rivian has any nefarious intent here. It would seem that they plan to fix only the covers that are broken. They are trying to control costs im sure. There may eventually be some extended warranty on the power tonneau but im not aware of any trucks that are out of thr 60k warranty yet. We will have to see what they do.

Looks like you will have to be a "squeaky wheel" if you want some "grease".

No it isn't. I am 20% of the way through the current warranty, and expect that I'll probably be 25% to 40% of the way through the current warranty before they get around to replacing it. Mind you I paid upfront for this PTC, and it has never worked - the SC opened it and locked it out before I ever received it. On top of that, I have spent hundreds of dollars and a fair amount of my time installing a stop-gap manual work around (not to mention the hassle of using a manual home-brew cover), just to get me by until Rivian could, finally, release an upgrade.
"...existing warranty" is not reasonable or acceptable.

Our PTC failed over a year ago. When it did so, the failure or Rivians attempt to dislodge the slats gauged up the track pretty bad. I’m almost certain it has to be replaced as nothing could effectively slide in there… and I’m not sure how difficult that will be.
