I had dropped off the R1T yesterday at the Chelsea MA SC for the alignment and half-shaft noise issue but they called this morning and they're apparently changing the sub frame as part of the field fix. Anyone have this performed?

They haven't even started to tackle the half-shaft issue yet, maybe the advisor isn't well informed as he mentioned missing bolts and then said that the rear suspension needs to be removed to get to the subframe and then also mentioned that the bolts aren't properly torqued down.
I asked for a more detailed explanation as I do a lot of towing with it. I have a 5xxx VIN, so its quite an early build.

So as of right now I don't know if its a:
  • sub frame replacement
  • retorquing of the sub frame bolts
  • replacing the bolts.
It sounds like its a field fix once a R1T comes in for service, so it doesn't sound like it should be serious othewrise it would be a recall.

I had the front sub-frame replaced on mine in an effort to get the noisy front drivers-side suspension fixed (it didn't work).

Was about a 3 day effort at my SC to replace the sub-frame once the parts came in. They also mentioned some issues with the bolts during the replacement - something about a new spec being required and needing to get permission from the mother ship to reuse the original bolts. Maybe that's what they're referring to?

I asked the service advisor to confirm if its the rear sub-frame since that's what he said initially and he confirmed he was talking about the rear sub frame, and they haven't even started to look at the front half-shaft noise/issue yet.

Will update once I know more, but it sounds like a similar field service action to yours except front vs rear subframe.

It sure would be nice to know what is wrong with the subframe....weld failures maybe? We have seen hiw factory is looking at those closely now with markings on them that they checked them closely.

Did you ever get rid of driver side suspension noise? Is/was it a thumping/thunking type noise? I have been suspect on the subframes so if your replacement didn't work, then I start to lean to bad upper bushings, ball joints, bearings, or even internal air/damper assembly issues.

I totally agree. When I return this week to pick it up, I will ask to see the service bulletin or ask to see the part which was replaced and exactly what the concern is/was.

Still have the noises (and added to your other thread). At this point, SC is just stating it's normal and not planning on trying any additional fixes.

Entire rear sub-frame was replaced because the manufacturing tech misaligned upon installing an oval shaped washer, here are the notes directly from the tech. I had asked for an alignment to be performed and I am experiencing the typical 8-2 steering wheel (instead of 9-3) trying to go straight.

"During inspection noted mechanical defect in rear subframe not allowing alignment, angles to come into specification. Replaced subframe and verified no abnormal steering feel or alignment characteristics unique to this vehicle following work performed."

I think the driver front noise is something in the shock tower
