Curious what % are interested in the Launch package just like Rivian asks so figured I would start poll.
Don’t care until there is a tri-motor variant, LIDAR or not….I’ll happily stick with my QUAD R1T until then

I already have the gen 2 quad as my premium vehicle. The r2 will be just for commuting, until the r3 is available My quad is the family, camping and road tripping car. T

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Been hearing it for 3 years, still not a way to use it to back up the home. My understanding is that the R1 line needs more hardware installed on the home to make it happen. That it would be built into R2 to make it easier. But still no mention of it. Something about DC to DC conversion or DC to AC conversion? Its outside my wheel house.
Yeah, I heard the R2 will convert from DC to AC with an adapter. The R1s were not built to do that, but most people who have V2G setups use inverters to convert the power from DC to AC.

We have standards in the industry. I just don’t know why automakers aren’t using them. Everything should be universally compatible no matter what vehicle or system you’re using. None of this proprietary bullshit (Ford…)

I'd like to be able to add a V2H turn-key hardware kit when I'm configuring the R2. It could be manufactured, licensed, or just approved by Rivian...I don't really care as long as I know it'll a) be everything I need, b) be tested by Rivian, and c) be relatively easy to install for a professional electrician.

To everyone buying a Launch R2 - thank you for doing God's work. Those of us waiting for R3/R3x thank you in advance because we know R3 doesn't happen without R2 having a successful launch and run.

Planned EV models are getting dropped left and right across other OEMs because of the change in regulatory/subsidy environments and so hopefully Rivian steps in to fill the void.

My thoughts exactly. I currently plan to lease the LE. I'll decide on 3 years if I want to "trade up"... Which includes giving up the free autonomy+.

I believe, and could be wrong, that LiDAR provides little to no benefit to the individual. LiDAR benefits the entire fleet, including non LiDAR units. There are "fringe cases" where LiDAR is better though.

Personally, I don't plan to use autonomous driving except on highway commutes, so it's a non issue for me.
It’s not the LIDAR - it’s the RAP1 chip that’s worth waiting for!

No, already have an R1T and S. Put a deposit down because I didn't know if the wife would ultimately want to live with the larger R1S, but turns out she loves it. We're holding the reservation in the event friend or family wants to get the R2 or gas prices get so bad we can arbitrage the reservation.

Question... Does anybody have any idea HOW MANY Launch editions will be produced? My understanding is that it will be available for only a limited time....

Any ideas on how that works?

Nobody knows what the company will do, but the assumption is that the LE has more pure profit margin than regular editions.. things like Autonomy being bundle, is essentially pure margin other than the opportunity cost to receive those funds as a one time future payment or MRR at an unknown time in the future. There is also the ability to lower or keep low production overhead since all cars will be essentially the same, other than possibly color (not yet 100% sure if anything beyond Eskar and Launch Green are available) which make the paint shop throughput and efficiency go up.

Of course there is nothing more beneficial to efficiency than THROUGHPUT, and that takes time to ramp the ppl and machines.

But margin is clearly something that Rivan would like to address for H2’26.

Rivian has said they expect to produce ~ 20-25K (I think they’ll beat this, it’s a goal but not a stretch goal) more cars in CY’26 than CY’25, so that’s most likely the R2 LE production alone.

So I think a better way to frame at least the foundation of the question is, how long will they be making the LE and making them available, and i think it’s clearly into CY’27 probably at least Q1/Q2, and only then announcing whatever is next in line for production sometIme during that window. And they will still most likely make the LE available deep into that next production alternative for some period, likely 2-3 quarters.. not to disenfranchise a new buyer who simply wasn’t an EARLY reservation holder.

So from those assumptions, I think the R2 LE will be what is available for the balanced of CY’26, at least H1’27, and would be probably the first ~ >60-90K vehicles.

Not really. It's going to be my kid hauler/commuter vehicle. 600+ horsepower for a vehicle that is just going to sit in traffic, autonomously cruise on the highway, and take my kids to school is pointless and worthless.

I'll take a Premium trim with the 20-inch wheels/tires, just like this:

Thorough and much appreciated response!
And you touched on my next question about the ability to select colors other than the Eskar and Green for this LE...

I certainly hope they don't limit the color options for the LE... The wife will have a pure fit if she can't get the color she wants after spending almost $70K.

I have heard a lot of people want to do Launch, but then later found out that the light interior is not available to do so. So the big question is do you still do it with dark interior to get something sooner or wait and see if they extend the launch edition to include light interior. I honestly believe the launch edition will go on until they are ready to push out RAP1/Lidar builds in early 2027 (yes no longer late 2026 as it is delayed). If they are only able to make 20-25k R2's with one shift this year, I think that is how many LE's are going to go out. Anyone know how many R1T/S's LE's were sold until they closed it? Thought I saw only 5k total each?
