About half the time I try to open the rear hatch from the drivers position, I get an "object detected" message and the hatch won't open. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions?
I have off and on for the past couple of months. The running theory is that the hatch is hitting the roof applique when opening during warmer weather. When that happens, it either stops opening or forces itself open and you can hear a pop as the top of the hatch hits the applique. The service center is replacing the applique now and adjusting the liftgate alignment to see if this fixes it.
Are you opening it on a sloped driveway? There's a known "bug" where if your vehicle is facing downhill, the hatch doesn't like to open. Something about the angle it doesn't like. Doesn't seem to affect it if the car is facing uphill.
Happens to me often if I'm backing into my driveway. You have to be back there to manually open it and give it a little push to convince it haha.
I had this issue after delivery. Service center took care of it in an hour or so when I brought it back. They said it was something about the way the lift gate was tensioned so that it senses more tension than is actually there, thinking it is hitting something.
You're obviously not alone...We've had our R1S for about a year and have had that happen a number of times. I'm having it looked at when they do some other work at the SC next week. The other "obstruction" I've experienced is wind - if there's a strong wind blowing from the rear the hatch thinks there's an object there and won't open.
