as of this morning, my R1S is dead, was fine last night, looks like a dead 12v, no warnings, waiting on a service callback.......
Was this your first 12V replacement? What sw version was your R1S on? I heard that 2024.31.01 was causing a lot of 12V deaths and that 2024.35.0 "fixed" it.

Fwiw, if you have a portable battery charger maybe try hooking it up to the leads by the trailer hitch, until service is able to get to you? Not sure if this will actually help but have seen it suggested a few other places. Better than doing nothing and letting it die completely. ?
It works only if it can supply continuous 30Amps. So it has to be a DECENT-size charger.

My 5amp one did nothing to help, then I purchased an NOCO GBX75 from Amazon (same-day delivery) and that's how I got my doors to unlock and retrieve my work laptop from it :)

After that, the truck shut itself off once again and never revived even with the GBX75 fully charged. I've read around this forum that connecting the GBX75 directly to the 12V Battery in the frunk works better than from the trailer hitch terminals. (Seems like there's a protective circuit back there to those leads that messes up with voltage/current supply)

I've had nothing but a pleasant experience with mine for 15 months so this is my service experience, though I've seen all the posts about others' not so great times with SC's. This feels like a silly thing to clog up a Service Center with, especially one that will take a few days, cause them to give me a loaner, driving hours each way for dropoff and pickup. All for a 12V swap? Does make me a bit nervous about the business model.

I guess the bonus is now I can finally get the body panels aligned that bugged me at first but I've grown used to!
Love your attitude mate. I'm in the same boat-very good experience with the car and then a dead battery. However, my local SC was great and sent a mobile tech the next day and I was sorted in 15 minutes. As others have advised, I'd nicely pester Rivian to get you in earlier. All the best.

Despite lack of appointment availability, I think Service generally triage and place electrical issues at higher priority. 12V replacement can be done via mobile service, if available. Maybe contact Support and try to escalate?

Preface: I have a very low VIN launch edition hat I have loved and **knocks on wood** in 25 months and 28k miles have NOT had a 12V issue.

The 12v Battery issue has been one that has kept me up at night while on long road trips which I take regularly. The idea that it is something that happens very unpredictably and without warning coupled with the inability to self-fix something so simple...

One of my best friends has a later model R1T and just woke up to a dead 12V this morning with no warnings or reasons we can figure out. He is awaiting the mobile service now.

The tell tale sign of a failing 12v battery is the vampire drain starts to increase over time, mine was nearing 3% a day before it died after replacement went down to 0.5% with no other changes. The VD is caused by the truck constantly waking to charge the 12v. The only negative to doing your own battery replacement is you can't reset the error message without taking it to Rivian and I'm sure if you did take it to them to reset they'd try voiding your warranty over it.

Still on original batteries at 48k and 2.5 years for whatever that is worth. Never had an issue. Been in airport parking lot many time, often over 2 weeks...once in subzero temps.

Bricked ten days until towed

poor quality and size of 12v Battery

The rental car cost alone would make them think …..

well, here's some amazing props to Rivian service.

I live about 3 miles from the nearest Service Center, called service, they said there's a mobile unit nearby, i said sure, come on by. He jump-started the car to open frunk, replaced 12v battery.

From service call to mobile visit and battery replacement completion including checking car diagnostics = 53 mins... wow!

Mine was a single 12v swap, not dual. The safest way was to detach the high voltage cutoff plug (it's clearly marked with a label on driver's side near 12v battery location).
I guess that’s good. But I’ve gotten the same service with Honda and it’s expected as such. Ie, it’s not a huge props moment.

For example, my pilot was 3 days away from end of 8 year extended warranty. This was 8 weeks ago. My original battery that came with the car was dying and causing faults and a transmission shifting issue. I called up Honda and they said “bring it in now, let’s diagnose, and let’s get this back to you today so you can drive for 2 days to make sure the issue is fixed under warranty.” I did it, they updated software, got a new battery, discounted the battery because I had been a customer for 8 years, and sent me on my way. All fixed within 2 hours of initially reaching out to them.

This is expected service. Not a tour de force.

This crap worries me endlessly. God forbid I park at the airport and come back to a bricked R1T. Seriously, has anyone here personally installed the ohmu batteries ? I fear not.
Don't remember where, but there was at least one person who responded to me in this forum who has one installed in his truck

We got the 12 volt warning on Opal when we had her her for about fifteen months. I called Rivian Service. They told me to keep her plugged in when not in use and I could continue to use her, but to watch for a sudden decrease in state of charge. They gave me a mobile service appointment about a week later. We continued to drive her without incident.

The mobile service technician came about a week later and replaced Opal's 12 volt battery. This took him about 30 minutes. He also handled another unrelated service ticket on our arm rest door.

I beg to differ; receiving exceptional service from one company doesn't make that service standard. Waiting a few weeks to even a month for most services is pretty standard these days for many different manufacturers.
