How about for Garmin watches. Rivian is an “Adventure Vehicle” and what would an adventurer wear? A Garmin watch of course.
That’s a likely as the in vehicle navigation switching to Garmin maps(which would be great)

Strava uses Mapbox (the map tech Rivian uses) and Strava integrates with Garmin just fine. AllTrails uses Mapbox and it integrates with Garmin as well.

If Rivian opens up NFC for Apple devs (they should), they should for a much broader base. APIs (Application Programming Interface) exist for precisely these kinds of integrations.

As with the Apple watch, I pay for goods and services all over with my Garmin Fenix 6 using the NFC chip. None of the entities involved (store, Garmin, bank) really care what device I am using or what else is installed.

I saw a video a couple years ago of someone using some solvent to dissolve the Tesla key card to reveal the electronics. It was basically a tiny chip attached to a loop of wire. Once removed, it could be put just about anywhere. I think someone put it under their skin so that could use their hand to unlock there car. On my Tesla the phone app is basically 100% reliable, except when the phone itself is dead or with issues. So, I always keep the key card in my wallet anyway.
Here is an x-ray of a rivian key. Not much in there bit a small rfid chip and antenna coil. I'm sure that coil could be made considerably smaller.

I've wondered why Tesla hasn't done this either, is there something we don't know? In my mind it should be possible, but there has to be a reason no manufacturer has done it yet (to my knowledge anyway).

Which corner has the chip? I want to punch a hole so the card can go on a clip (in a small riding pack) so it can't disappear during a run or a ride. Thanks!

Looking at the side with the Rivian logo, the chip is in the top right corner. You can also put a flashlight behind it to show the chip and coil.

The flashlight idea didn't even occur to me – and I have one of those insanely bright LED flashlights … finally a legit reason for buying it! : )

I believe Elon is working on embedding a chip in the brain or some body orifice of an unsuspecting Tesla owner.

I’m really hoping that Rivian adopts the Apple CarKey protocol, even if they can only do it for NFC if the truck doesn’t have ultra-wideband hardware inside. Having NFC would still give you the Rivian Wristband experience with the phone and Apple Watch.

Given that Rivian is a member manufacturer of the Car Connectivity Consortium, which established the car key standard, you‘d think this is a no-brainer.

Any chance of an x-ray of the wrist strap?

I have an Apple Watch set up to unlock my hotel room, and I love this feature a lot more than I thought I would. Stupendous, and works 10x better than PAAK. It also works better than the Rivian wristband. To be fair, though, the hotel lock has a permanent wired power supply, so it doesn’t need to sleep or otherwise be thrifty.

Or just create a chip that can be attached to a watchband.
Yes please! I don't understand why they can't create a simple silicone loop that can slide on ANY watch band. Simple, inexpensive, no batteries, and brand-agnostic!
