Happened yesterday. Waiting until Monday to call my guide and see what she recommends for replacement. Can't catch a break...

Have not had to but did see the cost running close to 2K in another post on here or facebook.

There was someone else here in the forum who had to get it replaced and it turned into a total clusterf*ck Because only Rivian can do it right now. I hope your experience is much easier??

I had mine replaced under waranty (a chip detected during the initial delivery of the vehicle) - and I also have an employee friend going through the “paid” process now (big crack from some gravel). My friends price (perhaps an employee price, not sure) is around $1600-1700. For my car, it was obviously free.

Overall they take the window replacement very seriously .. only Rivian does it, and it’s a fairly involved process. The Service Center that did mine (South San Francisco) did a wonderful job, but here’s roughly what it entails from their side:

* Remove headliner (easy, magnetically installed)
* Cover hood, A-Pillars, Dashboard with matts and pads
* Remove Mirror/Camera
* Two-man team + a special machine used to remove the old windshield
* New windshield installed
* 24 Hr Cure of the windshield adhesive before a full water-test is done
* Re-install the interior of the car, including the cameras
* Full ADAS (Driver+) Calibration that takes between 2-6 hours.

The big pain in the ass apparently is the ADAS calibration… apparently the hardware/software they use in the service center s is not the same as the stuff used on the factory floor, and it’s a more time-consuming calibration process because of that. I ultimately had to have mine calibrated twice - the first time the camera was just off enough that the Driver+ was behaving a little funny. They did calibrate it a second time though and it’s good as new now.

Overall I think that Rivian will improve this process a bit over time.. but because of the computers and calibration required for the camera system, it is unlikely to ever be a “simple” process.

My goodness! I had a small crack and because of this, just had it 'fixed'........instead of replaced....

Yeah my truck had been with rivian for 11 weeks being repaired and the 2nd day I have it back, something falls out of a dump truck passing me and I have a baseball sized crater. Lucky it didn't come through the windshield.

Sounds like the dump truck company should be on the hook...

I picked up a nice windshield star about three weeks into ownership. I used a DIY repair kit (Rain-X) and did it myself. Perfect? No, but close enough, especially in Colorado where a rock hit is not at all uncommon. I'll wait for a bigger issue before replacing. Even if "free" (as in through insurance), I also prefer to not have a third party R&Ring a windscreen.

I did ask at the local Rivian Service Center anyway though, they said they had already replaced several and they were not a hassle to get (not at that time anyway).

Not liking all of the reports of these damaged windshields for an adventure vehicle...

Especially when the price is 2-3x the cost of a regular cars windshield, insurance is surely to go up for Rivian owners.

I had my scratched windshield replaced under warranty. Now my automatic wipers don't work.

I also noticed that near the interior A-Pillar is excess glue that oozed out a little.

I had mine replaced at the Denver service center - pretty easy to get scheduled, and no issues to report afterwards.

Huh, I noticed same issue after my windshield was replaced but wasn’t sure if that was something I was just doing wrong.

I wonder why Rivian decided to reinvent the wheel here?
