^ at least it's a very simple lens design vs most modern vehicles. I remember trying to apply PPF to my Tesla Model Y complex curved headlight lens.. I eventually gave up and had my PPF guy do it.

I've had great experience with Nasiol hydrophobic products. They make products for cars, glass, wood, fabric, etc. I just emailed them to inquire which of their products would be best for headlights. I await a response. But browsing their product line, I came across a hydrophobic spray for goggles and helmets, which I assume are a similar polycarbonate material to headlights.

https://www.nasiol.com/goglide-rain-repellent/

"Goglide nanotechnology gives your helmet and goggles superior protection in conditions like rain, mud, and snow. Keeps your vision clear. Perfect for driving, riding, boating, and various sports."

When I get my R1S I'll try it and report back...

Thread was tl;dr. Sorry I'm lazy. Has anyone had build up on their lights with ppf + ceramic coating on the lights? My installer says it should help a lot, but may not perform in the most extreme temps.

i find it funny that many here assume that enough light should still be visible even with snow covering the light on the R1 or that it must be some fluke of conditions that happened to OP. basically inferring he's exaggerating or it didnt really happen the way he says. or those who dont even have the vehicle think they know better. why would he make this up? if he couldn't see because the light was covered, then im assuming thats actually what happened.

i think we all agree this isn't a Rivian specific problem but for a vehicle costing $90-100k and being touted as an adventure vehicle, you'd think they would have tested and discovered it as well as provided a solution like washer or heat element. we can hem and haw about all sorts of features they did or didn't add but if it comes down to a safety issue then its a concern imo.

and yes, i dont expect my Accord or Lexus sedans to solve this issue because those vehicles arent advertised as adventure vehicles meant for off-road.

I definitely see the danger. That is, stopping on the roadway in a snowstorm and snapping some iphone pics. ? Lights seem to be doing a good job lighting the road ahead.

Well, you quoted *me* and no-one else, and that's most certainly NOT what I said or implied. I think I was pretty clear about it:
I don't doubt that the OP had a problem, and I've had a similar problem with different vehicles
So if you're going to suggest that
many here assume ...
then perhaps you should quote those "many" and not attribute that to me.

I was surprised they weren’t the OE supplier, since they’re quite close to normal

Multiple people have cited this “Rivian should know better since it’s an adventure vehicle” argument but I feel like that’s completely irrelevant.

You know where and when this happens? Anytime you’re driving at speed when there is wet slushy snow…like when you’re driving on the highway in a snowstorm. Being an adventure vehicle has nothing to do with it. That is just an argument to justify being disappointed specifically in Rivian for an issue that crops up with many different vehicles that don’t use halogen headlights.

I get wishing that this wasn’t a problem but I don’t get arguing that the R1 has somehow failed at being an adventure vehicle because of an issue that crops up in certain circumstances, on road, and affects many different types of vehicles.

I do because these are road-going cars sold in wintry places.

Rivian advertises itself different than most other consumer vehicles so the expectation is different.

obviously your expectation is different from mine.
