I have a mobile tech coming to perform 22,500 mile service call... one of the items on their proactive list is to inspect the pins on the mobile charger. Apparently my VIN # range was prone to have corrosion on the portable charger pins which led to charging problems. While I haven't had any problems, I wonder if a similar issue could be happening with the wall chargers?

Just started having the same issue recently, not sure exactly when it started, but noticed it just a few days ago. Charges at max for an hour and then drops to about 60% of that. Unplugging charger from R1S and resetting the breaker to reset the charger does reset the clock to where it will charge at max again for an hour before ultimately dropping.

No evidence of arcing on my charger or R1S.

I’ve submitted a service ticket and will update as progress is made (or isn’t).

Having same issue now with my Gen 2. Submitted a service ticket. Issue is with various level 2 chargers, not a rivian home charger.

My Rivian Home Charger is doing the same thing (or my R1T is). Things got a little weirder today with this message popping up (see image). I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be charged idle fees at home - :CWL:

I haven't put it a ticket yet, but I'm a little concerned that something odd is going on.

PS: I had service this summer for a 12V/Heater/HVAC Drain issue (same one others have seen I'm sure) and had great service from Tualatin, OR. Additionally Rivian took care of our rental and tow of our vehicle to service and from service to home. I couldn't be happier with that, but this current Level 2 issue started around that time or with the last update, so I wonder what is ultimately causing it. At least now I know to send pictures of plug/pins if I file a ticket.

So Rivian pushed down a Wallcharger software update V03.04.12 which was to fix the problem but I was still having the issue of it throttle back KW after 1/2 hr or 1 hr, even after update. From 47/48 Amps to 31/32 Amps on the half hour or hour. Plug was little bit warm but not hot by any stretch when I went outside to check after throttle back.

So started to hack around different situations to see if it is purely software and I believe it is. I rebooted the wall charger after software update but it didn’t do anything to help. However I removed the scheduled charge “on” setting this time, then rebooted the charger, plugged the vehicle in at a time before the previous schedule charge start time and it charged the vehicle from 10% battery up to 90% (need the extra for a trip that day) all at 48 Ampe and 22 miles per hour. 11.2 KW rate. No throttling back, no issues.

Still waiting for Rivian to update our 2nd charger as it still suffers from performance anxiety it seems.

Might be different for others but that is our situation over here. Charger has charged 3 times since and no more throttling.

I am having the same problem and have noticed it since the update before this last one that included Apple Music.

My situation is different in that I am using a non-Rivian Level 2 charger (mine is still in the box, waiting until I move into my new home), a Juice Box that for a long time worked just fine, keeping me at the typical 9 kW. Now, it charges at the higher speed for an hour, then drops to 13 mi/hr / 6.2 kW. Taking forever to charge at home and pushing me into the non-daylight hours too often, negating my solar benefits.

I am going to add a new Powerwall 3 to my house, they can deliver power at 11 kW continuous, which will help to finish a charge if needed; does anyone have any experience with the new Powerwall 3s in this context?

Same issue here. Not sure when it started exactly but seems after the latest update. Happened twice now on my Rivian home charger but also happened on a Tesla destination charger when I was staying at a hotel in Texas a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if that was on truck side or not, but seems like it may have been as no one else was charging when I checked on it in the morning so not sure why it would throttle.

Look at this horseshit. Gen2 brand new R1S. Tesla wall charger. And don’t give me the ‘it’s the charger’ BS. My Y charges just fine.

Rivian thermals suck ass. It’s well documented.

that’s crazy. You definitely have something unusual going on. Put a service ticket in as I’d bet you need your charging port replaced. I’ve heard a few others have needed that with similar issues

Yeah I’m swapping my wall connector with the universal that comes with the built in adapter. If that does the same thing it’s gotta be the car at that point

Did you actually watch the charge rates? The time on mine just shows how long it has been plugged in, if I plug it in at 10 pm and unplug it at 6 am it will say it charged for 8 hours even if it only charged for 2.

That being said, if I charge at my place in Indio and the garage is over 95 degrees the plug gets warm and the charge rate decreases. Once it decreases it does not go back up until I unplug from the vehicle and plug back in but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the rate drop below 16 mph.

I am not using a Rivian charger, I’m using an Emporia but the charge behavior is the R1S not the charger.

Edit:

Here is an example from 9/17, the R1S charged between 9pm and 1am but the vehicle history shows over 10 hours because I did not unplug until after 7am.

This is the charge data from my charger you can see from the chart set for hourly reporting the charge ended in the 1am hour

Joining in the misery here. Have a long trip planned for later today and my gen 2 max-pack R1S will pull down 6.9kW from a 48A charger that has no problem delivering 11.5kW. The R1S pulls full power fine normally when I charge to its usual 70% limit, but I boosted it to 100% this morning due to the long drive and it seems to have slowed down right around 80% charge. Pretty frustrating, won’t hit 100% in time, but should have enough charge to reach my destination - just won’t have as much as a buffer.

When I was messing around with it earlier this morning, I could get the car to pull full power if I turned the climate on - so it’s clearly the vehicle and not the EVSE (Gen 3 Tesla HPWC).
