Yes 3yrs / 36k It's just odd that they would say I had to bring it in below 36k if the issue is reported at 30k. If it takes them 3 months to get me an appointment which is what they said originally that's their problem not mine is all.
If the problem was reported at 30,000 they should definitely cover it. I'd have them escalate.

WTH? - Canadians are supposed to be nicer.

I don't think the two just run in parallel. Do they?
I thought one was for a separate system like maybe braking during a power failure.
You're probably not going to believe me because this is wild and it's something no auto manufacturer has done before or since, but...

One 12V battery powers the left side of the vehicle.
The other 12V battery powers the right side of the vehicle.

Each battery has it's own fuse block, one on the left side of the vehicle, one on the right side of the vehicle. When you look at the (never released to the public) fuse block diagrams, each clearly states Right side xxx or Left side xxx.

It's a bizarre, expensive and problematic setup that was one of the first things Rivian revised after R1's started to be delivered in large numbers.

Oh yeah, the capacitor in the single battery vehicles is to just provide a large amount of surge current for a very short period of time for devices that may have large start up loads.

Just got the same warning, but was able to secure an appointment for next week.
How have people managed? The recommendation is to keep car plugged when not driving, but I can’t do that at work or grocery store. Have you all kept driving as usual when waiting for an appointment?

I've kept the truck plugged in at home but have continued to commute to work and leave it in the parking lot all day. I have not had an issue, but I have moved my external jump box from the frunk into my work bag so I would have easier access to it if I needed it to jump the 12V to unlock the car at the end of the day.

Mobile Service just replaced my 12v batteries today. Date code was 12/21. He said they may be the oldest ones he has seen.

Figures it would happen on the same day that my order went in on an R2.

They aren't supposed to charge labor on those anymore.
They charged me some labor on my G1 R1S yesterday but credited back most of it on the final bill.

Total labor was listed at 300 with 259 credited back.

Just keep SOC of high voltage pack above 30%. I think recommendation is actually 20% but I can't remember. Extra 10% wouldn't hurt. They also triage service requests. The appointment is mostly a formality. If issue is more urgent and affect drivability, they get you in sooner. Just ask and work with them.

Thanks! The Bellevue SC has been great actually!

I went in to the RIDE menu and reset the warning. There is something wrong with the software update not our batteries. Too high of a percentage of people got this warning within 2 to 3 days of installing the last update. Something is fishy.

I mean, there's 100k R1 vehicles and a lot of them are starting to hit the 3 year mark. Lead acid batteries generally last 3-5 years, and we know Rivian is pretty hard on theirs. It makes sense to have so many proactive warnings all in the last few weeks.

But, I also reset ours, on Sunday, still hasn't come back yet. Also was able to get the hotfix update installed after I did the reset too.

Possible. But, until we learn more, "correlation is not causation".

100%. And the single battery gen1 R1s having their 12V replaced at around half that time tracks. By now, they probably know life expectancy of each 12V in this car. Just not saying it out loud because you know some people will freak out. And like sharks, the class action law firms will smell blood and opportunity for a payday.

I asked explicitly how others got either one of the batteries comp’d or labor waived. They said no to me.
I just had mine replaced yesterday in SoCal and received a $259 discount which was explained to me as one of the batteries being free. I did not ask for any discount or more details. I have a friend in NY who had his replaced last week and he also received the $259 discount.

You might want to take it to a different service center and see what they can do for you.

I also checked the battery voltage which was fine although I know that is not the only indication of whether the battery is bad. The weirdest thing is I put in a a service request based on the initial warning and haven't heard anything back from Rivian. I am not saying Rivian is doing anything malicious but given the complexity of the software and the correlation to the recent update, it just seems fishy. Both of my batteries were replaced under warranty in my first year of ownership so I wouldn't expect them to be ready for replacement quite yet. I also had my truck in for the full service check about 6 weeks ago and the battery checked out good.
