Because I've been folding down the R1S second row of seats a lot lately, I'd love a macro that does the following:
  • Records the current position of both front seats
  • Moves them forward 6" (or an amount that could be set by the user - I don't want to squish someone who might be sitting in a seat)
  • Hits the buttons to automatically fold down the second row of seats
  • Then restores the seats to their original position
I'm basically doing this manually now every time I need to fold down the second row of seats. In an ideal world the buttons in the back of the R1S would do this automatically, but I'd be happy if I could do it from the Infotainment screen.

I've set up a few Alexa automations to do things like automatically turn on the cameras when I arrive home, or at a few different jobsites. They are, ah... unreliable, to say the least. ☹ Would be nice to have a better method.

If you could have your Rivian change settings automatically based on certain criteria (speed, location, etc), what would you have it do? For those of you familiar with "macros," what macro would you run to make your life easier?

Examples:

- For Gen 1 owners, automatically turning on/off Conserve mode when you exceed / go below a certain speed.

- Opening/closing the garage door when you arrive to/leave your home.

- Turning on the rear vents for kids or dogs when you get in the vehicle.

- Turning on/off wifi or the hotspot.

- Change ride settings based on who is driving the vehicle.

Let's hear them!
Ride height based on location pins.
Macro for "kid mode". This would be for if I am driving the kids, it would include rear window locks, lock rear screen, idk if gen 2 can turn on child locks via screen but that'd be good, maybe even nav volume down.

Turn off wifi when going to drive. (Like Tesla. This prevents delay when leaving the house for using network features)

I think I'd like one to auto turn on highway assist when available. Not sure though

Could you also tap into Alexa commands? Maybe make EVPLAY show up as a device on Alexa and use that as a workaround for voice commands that Rivian doesn't support? Or just add a microphone and an edge llm to parse requests and run commands.

Tons of options! But I'll stop rambling

Okay one more.

Maybe implement a building block system with available actions and triggers to build our own automations, similar to how home assistant does automations. That'd be sick

I really just want to enable the rear motors more often for when I am turning or using full regen. Maybe any time I put on my turn signal, or use more than a certain percentage of regen. I didn't like the front drive bias but want the energy efficiency for most of the time in going straight. I think it uses to much front tread when doing full regen and when turning. This should help the balance when turning and reduce the tread usage for higher regen levels.

Rivian could do this, but it would effect the EPA rating.

Also find a way to default to a different drive mode all the time.

Also...any interest in tying some of these settings to physical buttons, similar to the Tesla SEXY buttons? Maybe a dedicated liftgate or charge port button, or an actual HVAC fan knob?
šŸ‘† This. A few physical buttons, maybe a knob or two. I would use for HVAC adjustments.

[If you're not interested in an old person ranting about how we had it "back in the day" then skip the rest of this comment.]

[Also, I really love my R1S but I am honest with myself that a few design choices could have been better - if you can't stand reading subjective criticism about the R1 design (or the 1993 Chevy Silverado design) then move along.]

Cars reached the pinnacle of HVAC usability engineering in about 1991. It's been downhill ever since.

Here's the layout of my 1991 car HVAC controls:
Rivian R1T R1S Automated Settings Macros - Request for Ideas 1750367839100-4o

I looked at this for about 45 seconds when I first bought it. Mostly to see the pattern of the middle knob (what do I want the air to blow at?). Then I drove that car for 15 years and made countless adjustments while driving, but I never looked at those controls ever again. (The push-button for the AC compressor motor wasn't a toggle, it stayed pushed in when it was on. So even the state of that control could be known by feel alone.)

I kept my eyes on the road and made the exact adjustments I wanted instantly by feel. Same with where to point the in-dash vents.

Here's the layout of my dad's 1993 car HVAC controls:
Rivian R1T R1S Automated Settings Macros - Request for Ideas 1750368064637-1i

Never mind the fact that there are two different buttons you can push that each have an icon of an arrow pointing at feet. There are several problems with this new interaction design. First, you can't tell what state it's in by feel. Is the fan on low, or medium? What's the heat set to? To know, you must look at it. Another key problem here is that you would press the horizontal bar for hotter air and the little carat on the "C_____H" readout would start marching along and expect you to press the button again when you wanted it to stop. And the temperature isn't changing. That happens with a delay. So there's no possible way to adjust this thing, or even know what it's set to without looking at it. Every. Single. Time.

And so - in a world where perfectly safe, intuitively usable HVAC system controls already existed that could be operated with knobs and maybe a button or two with 100% accuracy without looking away from the road - vehicle designers chose to create instead a computer interaction that required eyes-on for the most basic use cases. I literally had to pull over and stop driving the first few times I needed to make adjustments so I could give this computerized freak show my undivided attention.

I think you all know how this rant applies to the R1.

So, yeah, a few buttons and maybe a dial that we could set up with software would be great. I would use mine for HVAC settings so I can get my eyes back on the road.

Safe travels folks!

I'm old. One major reason that we hated and would never buy the Lightning is the damn buttons. No, please, unless it's just a small few easy to touch and programmable ones. Not the ones that some engineer thinks I need. Definitely hell no on the 90s HVAC controls. Ugh, you gave me flashback PTSD.

I'd like the garage button to also fold my mirrors and activate my cameras.

I'd like the car to remember I always use the seat ventilation and never want the seat heater. It's annoying to have the a/c on, and push the icon...only to get a hot butt.

I'd like to program the turn signal so it is audible at highway speeds and not obnoxious at low speeds.
100% on folding the mirrors. I currently use home assistant to trigger the garage automatically and it works way better than the Tesla or Rivian ever did because I can run a logic check on if the garage is already up or down. If we could just expose the mirror folding command in the API, Rivian wouldn't even have to do anything.

If doors are left unlocked for more than 3 minutes without any activity (doors opening/closing), enter carwash mode (doors remain unlocked but handles retract) and fold mirrors.

If a passenger presses the temp-up or temp-down buttons (which disables "sync" mode) immediately re-enable sync and set the master temperature to whatever the passenger was trying to set.

Automatically restore the passenger seat location to preset position when the vehicle wakes from sleep (if passenger seat is unoccupied).

IMO these are software issues that Rivian really should address. But if they won't and you can then I am on board with the aftermarket route.

Above 30 mph, If I slam on the brakes and the front sensors detect a vehicle within 10 feet, fire a sidewinder missle. šŸ’„
I could have used this today. Some ahole came flying up in the 3rd lane which was running out, merging down (with plenty of signage) into the second lane. I was in the second lane and had to slam on the brakes and veer right (while trying not to hit the car in the first lane) as he cut me off because his lane ran out. The Ahole then continued across the remaining lanes to an exit ramp lane cutting several other vehicles. I’m really surprised he didn’t hit me.. He deserved a sidewinder up his ass. šŸ’£

If the A/C is on and there are 5-10 mins left to the navigation destination, set the HVAC to fan only to dry out the system to prevent mold growth and smells.

Agree, check out the HVAC controls from a BMW e30 (88-93 for this layout)

Large, clear and easy to use by feel dials for temp and fan speed. Visual and tactile infinitely variable blending of air direction. Lit toggle buttons for AC and recirculate. This remains the ne plus ultra of HVAC UX in my opinion.

Was he driving a jacked Civic? I saw something very similar two weeks ago where 422 East hits the 222N exit in Reading...I was in the rightmost lane because I too needed 222 north, except that I was in the proper lane to exit and not the leftmost of the 3.
