Hey so I know people probably ask this all the time as I am not new at all to car forums, but I am new to Rivian forums as you can see. But anyway, I can choose between a 2022 R1T Quad Motor with 8k miles or a 2023 with 3x as many miles for the same price. Part of me thinks newer is better, but 3x the miles seems silly. But I am asking here because I don't know as much about the difference (yes I searched and googled) but was hoping there would be an obvious answer from people who know these cars. I think I know the answer but just to keep in mind, I actually like the way the 2023 looks inside and out color wise MUCH better than the 2022, but I could live with it if it's such a drastic difference in your opinions mileage etc wise. Also to add, the 2022 looks new, the 2023 I haven't seen in person but I would imagine wouldn't look quite as perfect if driven 3x as long. Anyway, any input helps. Thanks everyone

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
There are very few feature/content differences between the 2022 and 2023, with the notable exception being Meridian Elevation audio (2022 and I believe some '23s?) and the downgrade ('23, not sure what the cutoff is). Otherwise, it's little stuff like the 12V in the frunk and the surround materials on the seat backs.

I'm assuming both trucks would be Adventure. The Launch Edition had special badging (and a great deal on wheels and goodies if you ordered new) but is otherwise mechanically identical to the Adventure.

Assuming there's nothing wrong with either truck, choose which one you like best and run with it. You'll still have plenty of warranty to shake things out.

FWIW I have 23k miles on my '22 and mechanically it's flawless. I wouldn't be too put off by the miles on the '23.

When was the 2023 built? If it was built pre February 2023 then it should have the Meridian audio. after that, it's the Elevation.

A few more things were addressed from the very early '22 vins in the 2023 models so despite the additional mileage, it might be the better option. What are the colours of each?

I had the same thing happening to me when I purchased my 2022 launch. I went back and forth between that and a 2023. For me it came down to the 2023 didn’t have the powered tonneau cover. Also the 2022 was the exact color combo and rim/tires I wanted. My two cents would be to go with the one YOU like better. As far as color and options. Good luck and enjoy!!

'23's built February and later will probably have a cast (instead of welded) front subframe. I believe this is a stronger piece. May make a difference to you. Also somewhere along the way they updated the door seals. And removed the 12V outlets in the fronk and under the dash, as others have noted. And removed the wood insert in the back of the headrest (don't think anyone cares about that). Also the change in audio system, as others have noted.

Imho none of those are dealbreakers. Go with whichever one has the color you want. ?

Do you prefer the blackout look of the launch edition or adventure 2 tone interior? IMHO I'd go with the one with the least amount of miles.

It’s a coin flip, 25k miles is not that many assuming they have new tires might be the better deal as the 22 will certainly still have the original tires. Expect to get around 25-30k on a set of tires.

Mine is January '23 R1T build, Meridian speakers, but welded subframe. This will sound odd, but I don't think the welded subframe is a con necessarily. I had an issue where it sounded as though one of the welds had failed, Rivian checked all the sub components etc connected to it, ensured they were torqued etc, but diring their test drive, the issue persisted. They pulled the sub frame, confirmed it was the issue and replaced it with a retrofit Gen 2. Fixed the issue 100%

Underlying point is, Rivian does periodic checks for failed welds etc as part of service, and if they find an issue, will replace it accordingly.

The mileage on the ā€˜23 seems fine and there is little difference otherwise so I agree with @Donald Stanfield and if one has the Meridian audio I would grab that one. Mine is a ā€˜23 with Meridian so it could be either one…

My welded subframe was also replaced with the newer cast unit. And when that is done a bunch of other things come along for ride...lower control arms...steering knuckle...underbody cover.

Ignore the model year and mileage difference. Pay attention to features instead. A few that I would highlight are: Meridian audio, exterior color, interior color, wheel size (steer clear of 21ā€), tire age/condition, underbody shield (if you’re a rock crawl type of person), full-size spare, and tonneau cover.

I just last month bought a ā€˜22 R1T with <7k miles. Just had it in for service; Rivian replaced the front subframe and assorted components.

The service work was slow and shoddy, and consequently I expect to have the car in for further cleanup, but the problem is fixed and I am happy with the suspension ā€œupgradeā€.

My dilemma was similar to yours, including a preference for a different color than I ultimately bought. I went with the ā€˜22 because:
- I’m happy to capitalize on the depreciation, especially when
- the car has a long warranty left
- and it’s loaded with all options I’d want including meridian audio, powered tonneau cover

I’d repeat my decision…super happy

I would not trade my 2022 for a 2023 because ive had very few issues with it and the only changes were some very minor downgrades in little trim things between 2022 and 2023.

Miles are not that important, but see if you can get service history on them.

Go with the color and interior you like better.
