DIY Tire Rotation?

It takes me about 1.5 hours to do a 5-tire rotation on my R1T but I don't rush it. That extra time is from start to finish and includes wrestling the spare out of the truck, doing the rotation, measuring the tread depth at each corner, Cleaning the inside of each wheel, and giving the brake calipers a good cleaning since I can reach them.

Yes, I could take it into America's Tire and let the Tire Monkeys have at it and save myself about 30 minutes but then the wheels and calipers would be dirtier, AND they'd likely drag the tire off the tailgate and break the trim piece again. No thanks.

I don't technically rotate my tires, but I switch between 20" and 22" wheels/tires when Winter/Spring arrive.

Also, I agree with others on this thread that I measure tread depth to determine what tires go where. The two tires with the greatest tread depth go in the front. I also have spares for both wheel sets so that one also gets measured and "rotated" in as well (the tire with the least tread depth becomes the spare).

This changeover takes me a little over an hour.

I do the same - often swapping wheels between trips if it’s going to be a while before we head back into the snow. Feels odd to put the better tread up front (historically have put the better tread in back). Take me 45-60min taking my time.

I do use a batt torque wrench + a wheel dolley

Always put the better tires on the front, that's where the steering and most of the stopping happens.

Agreed - just weird. Def diff wear pattern than every prior ice suv

Just did my first 4 tire rotation on my R1T. Used my rolling jack, jack puck, and the factory jack. Worked fine!
I purchased a space saver spare, and thought about inflating it and doing a cross pattern rotation, but decided just to do a front to back rotation instead.
Easy peasy!!

It may seem really silly but this little furniture tool is saving my back on rotations/swaps​

In four years of ownership, I have thrown my back out twice swapping my all-seasons and my winter tires. 60 lbs of tires and wheels so low is really tough. I just ordered this furniture jack. Thanks!
