Well, I’m an idiot and tapped the rear quarter panel on my R1S against the charging handle in my garage.

Pretty good sized dent. I got a pdr quote to fix it for $550. The place I got quoted looks relatively newer with 40 Google reviews but all 5 star.

He’s never worked on a Rivian but has done lots of work on Tesla. He indicates he’ll have to take off the interior rear side panel to access from inside.

Are there any difficulties he could run into accessing it that way? Seems like a really reasonable quote, but all the reviews are really good. He says he’ll need it for the day. Hoping it’s not too good to be true…

I’ll let others answer about taking the panel off, but that’s not all that bad, and I’d gladly pay $550 to fix that and it looks like your paint made it out well.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
It’s a Camry!

$550 seems super reasonable. The only concern I would have is that if you remove the side top panels, they are apparently somewhat fragile and often need replacement as the clips can break. I cannot confirm the truth of this, but the info came from a service center employee whom I trust so assume it’s plausible.

I'd imagine most body shop / dent repair folks would have a variety of panel clip replacements available. Most trim panels use replaceable clips that can get brittle and break under normal install/removal. Would be something I'd mention to the person doing the work and making sure they'd replace any broken clips, but nothing more.

I'll mention it when I drop it off. Thanks for the heads up!

Always a good idea! Just wanted to be clear it wouldn't make sense to assume anything about the quality of work from a mechanic or body shop based on broken clips. Happens all the time, even when doing everything correctly.

Yes, the paint is fine. I barely tapped it. Thought about trying to pull it myself, but about 5 minutes of google research indicated that was likely a bad idea.

I had a similar dent that I caused by backing into my garbage can about 3 days after taking delivery of my truck. I was able to pretty much take care of it with a sink suction cup and it is hardly noticeable. I kid you not.

I seriously thought about picking up one of the pullers from advance auto parts, but worried I would make a relatively clean dent worse.

I worried about it but tried it anyway and it worked great. It did not require too much force. The panel is quite easy to bend.

I paid $600 to remove a quarter sized ding from the hood, on the hood they can't get at it from the back and its aluminum not steel, at least yours is steel which is easier to work with.

The stuff inside the wheel well should come out easy enough but this looks like it'll pull out really well.

Hairdryer and some dry ice, and that would be out in 5 minutes! :CWL: Maybe?

The sides of the Rivian are an aluminum/steel alloy. It's a bit harder than pure aluminum like the hood, but not much harder.

The wheel well is just dirt, thankfully. Needs a bath, but headed up to ski this weekend, so not bothering.

Sounds like a great price. Here in Northern Virginia they'd charge twice that just to look at it, haha. ? Let us know how it works out!
