Just got my truck back last week- Rivian replaced both front hub and half shafts, both front dampers, and jounce lines. The tick-tocking sounds are gone (for now, anyway) and play in the accelerator pedal between regen and acceleration is also resolved. With this, the new front subframe, tonneau cover replacement, new driver door handle and module in the door to read key cards and HVAC replacement it seems Rivian has spent a lot of money under warranty on this truck. I'm still very happy with it and appreciate the fixes and hope Rivian has learned along the way to build better with less repairs after the fact. My truck is a '22 LE QM R1T, 23k miles, Vin 4xxx.

Just to chime in on this, my latest fix included the halfshafts AND hubs as an assembly. This seems to be the key. The thinking is that by the time you get the clunking noise, both the halfshafts and the hubs are worn to the point that there is some play. Replacing the halfshaft alone still leaves the worn hub which will then induce wear on the new halfshaft. My journey so far:

9/24: Ting washers then halfshafts
11/24: Drive units, dampers, jounce lines
3/25: Halfshafts
9/25: Haflshafts and hubs, subframe, lower control arms (all Gen 2)

All that said, the truck drives better new and kudos to the Portland SC for doing everything they could to solve the issue. Really hope this time is the charm.

Awesome! I got a message from service and they are still working on figuring out the noise. Ting washers didn’t work so hopefully the half shafts do it.
can you hear any “ticking” anymore?
Just notice mine are C

thats great to hear! Mine is in service right now for that. Ting Washers and Jounce Lines were 3 weeks ago and the noise was still there. Lets hope they go all out like yours to fix this

Count me among those with the issue with my ‘23 R1S quad. Was there when I bought it used and was told by service it’s “normal”. It’s been driving me nuts since on an otherwise good truck. It seems to be getting worse both in terms of loudness and frequency since. I finally had enough and booked a service appointment for early October. I also found a good way to record the issue. Go through a drive through with your windows down. The wall of the drive through reflects the sound back.

Just picked up the truck. New half shafts and ting washer update.

The half-shafts on my dual motor have the (F) revision to them.

Everything is quiet. Let's see how long it lasts.

To be fair, your camera is picking up echo/concentration off the wall.

Attached is the NVH guide to determine if it's within "spec" or not.

I'm curious if anyone has seen an FSAM for this yet. I'm over 60k miles, and with this not under power train, I'm curious if Rivian will cover it knowing it's a widespread issue.

Edit to replace guides with gifs, Rivian 🐀 caught me

100%. I’ve had issues recording it in the past because the recording levels on my phone seem to emphasize bass and it was muffled by the bass from the road and my non-ev rated heavy af AT tires. This was the best way to get a clear recording.

I can easily hear the knocking over hvac and radio. I’m also noticing extremely rare intermittent minor hesitation but didn’t really think anything of it until you posted this. It’s extremely rare and minor so maybe it’s just in my head, who knows?

I decided that instead of waiting for a new part to fix it I would be better served complaining about it to service so rivian finally addresses it. It’s the big wart on the otherwise (almost) perfect car.

Yes, I've felt this tiny hesitation as well...very strange. I'm driving my truck like an old grandpa until I can trade for R2.

If it's any consolation, chances are the sounds will become more obvious and easier to reproduce by the time your service appointment comes around. My "ride along" with the service tech consisted of backing it up halfway out of a parking spot.

Mine was identical, didn’t even make it out of the driveway and the mobile tech knew

Here's the million dollar question.

Has anyone had a F or G revision half-shaft fail yet?

Same the tech road in the parking lot of the service center and said that’s far enough. Washers were replaced at 47k and again this week at 62k.

My concern now is they never considered even looking into the half shafts or hubs wearing. Now being outside of warranty how long until it’s back and all out of pocket!

Just got mine back from the new Sterling, VA service center. I had my half shafts replaced a year ago. This time just ting washers per the current customer satisfaction campaign.
