I think kneel mode causes less stress to our R1S, than the stress my wife gives me when I turn it off under her settings. That alone is worth the gamble?

This is such a weird fear. Kneel doesn't make your suspension do anything that it doesn't already do every single time you drive it. To that end, driving your Rivian will also prematurely wear your suspension—so you should just not drive it.

Enjoy the truck. Don't over think it.
I thought if you do NOT have the vehicle on “auto”, it doesn’t automatically adjust the height when you’re driving?

That’s correct. If you leave it in Auto, the height will adjust automatically based on travel speed. If I remember correctly, Auto height adjust is only available in All-Purpose mode, and maybe Conserve mode.

Damping is a completely different thing and happens no matter what setting you select because that’s related to the hydraulic damping/anti roll technology they have incorporated instead of traditional anti-sway/ anti-roll bars.

Car is too high in standard mode for my family. I’m going to try to see if the kneel option works. But doesn’t that stress your suspension for often since you’re using it all the time?
Our Grand Cherokee with air suspension and kneel/entry mode operating for the life of the vehicle with no problems. The compressor was my only concern. The air bags themselves, being rubber, will last longer as they are exercised up and down.

The longer the air suspension remains static the rubber can become dry. Imagine tires on a truck that is never driven. Dry rot.

At least that is how I understand it. Compressor reliability has always been a burden in Range Rovers air ride. I guess we shall see! I’ll be using kneel mode.

its mechanical. anything mechanical the more often you use it the more stressed it is and that includes the air compressor.

I don't use kneel because I do believe it probably would take a toll on the suspension over time. Although I have no evidence to back that up. I also don't have other folks in my truck 99% of the time and the AP height isn't too much of a stretch for me.
COdogman, obviously your significant other isn't 5'1" like mine.....LOLOLOL. I am threatening to build her a step stool, but if you could have seen the look I got.......... let's just say, I was grateful to escape with my life.

I think there would be more stress with my big fat butt in the truck...if the suspension can't handle that, I will sell it and get a Yugo........not really....but maybe.

The compressor operates constantly. Your airbags do not have perfect seals, auto mode raises and lowers you anyway, the vehicle self levels based on load, and seems to just enjoy adjusting the fit of its drawers at stoplights.

These are the uses cases the components are rated for, you don't need to be afraid of using them. Kneel is a marginal increase in wear at best.

Nobody will ever be able to prove to you that kneeling that one extra time wasn't the straw the broke the camel's back if you developer some kind of wear-related problem. But it wasn't.

For anyone seriously concerned about kneel cycles adding stress to the suspension, you should probably stop driving your R1 to avoid that stress as well. The hundreds/thousands of suspension cycles experienced from just 1 normal everyday drive exert substantially more stress on the suspension system than a handful of lower & raise cycles per day.

Been using it for 8 days since I got the R1T. It’s fantastic for short wife and little kids. Don’t be afraid to use the features, there is a warranty for a reason.
The only problem being the Service Center, lol. It's 200 miles away, so I would like to avoid anything that might cause an issue. Unfortunate as it is!

the dampening is adjusted all the time. And the truck still load level.

I wholeheartedly agree. My automotive tenet is "use it or lose it". Those folks worried about suspension stress should also discontinue opening the windows and using the windshield wipers so that they may still work in some distant future.

LX hydraulic suspension was going strong at 125K miles when I traded for the Rivian. Will never own another conventionally damped/sprung vehicle., worth the upgrade to the next level trim on ICE vehicles as well.

Upgraded Air/Hydraulic/Magnetorheological dampers with computer control is the way to go from now on. Better compliance all around with multiple settings depending on needs/use.

Running boards really help getting in and out of the vehicle ?
