I spoke to Sirius and they said it is the same login as the app on the phone. Any streaming login can be used on your account to login. The only issue I encountered logging in is that it asks for email and its not the master account email, it is the streaming email or ID. if you have a streaming ID that is not an email enter that and the password associated with it. When I called Sirius they said a lot of Rivian owners are calling in with this issue.
I used my email to login but have 2 user names in that account. One stream is always playing in my house and the other is on my phone to use there or stream to the Rivian. Therefore I planned on the same account with 2 streams, paying for 2 streams. Hopefully that is the case or I’ll just call them and cancel. I have learned over the past 20 odd years with them that they will basically give you a better deal. You actually no longer need to call. Just cancel in the online account and a new deal just might come up even better.
Strange, When I called it was a North American person that answered and confirmed all the detail on my account. We will see how this plays out as I will not be paying another fee if I have to subscribe.

I agree. I willingly pay for 2 streams already. Can stream on BT but the convenience of everything on the screen and switching stations is so much better. I will just cancel my one phone stream and put it on the Rivian.

My situation may be different as I have a lifetime subscription that was paid like 10 years ago. I know other people that have lifetime and Rivians and had the same setup experience I did. They were also told the same thing when they called in.

I’ve been a Sirius (pre-XM) subscriber for over 20 years, but I think I’m done. I’ve had a streaming only account for the last several years but I’ve found myself listening less and less. I was excited when I heard this feature was coming so I kept my account live waiting For it to come to Rivian, but the idea that I have to add a car specific subscription on what is a streaming app is too much for me to get over. I’ve never wanted CarPlay on my Rivian but…my streaming only plan would work fine on carplay ?‍♂

The entire point of sat radio is music anywhere. the entire point of a streaming account is ability to stream anywhere with data. This implementation makes little sense to me and seems like a desperate move from a company that’s become a lot less relevant.

The new SiriusXM "App" in the R1 is a trap. Somehow, Rivian & SiriusXM managed to cough-up an app disguised as a Satellite Radio - complete with a horse-crap Radio ID, even though it's actually just a streaming app.

. W T F, Rivian. I expect this kind of crap from SiriusXM, but what clown at Rivian craped-out this dysfunctional atrocity? Or was this the price Rivian had to agree to pay to get a native app built for their platform?
Take it easy on Rivian bashing. This is SXM calling the shots, not Rivian. SXM is doing the exact same thing they have already implemented with other EV manufacturers. They are desperate to keep SXM in business because vehicle manufacturers‘ trend is to not offer SXM hardware. Simply put, they are more interested in getting new accounts from new Rivian owners than worrying about some (not all) legacy account owners being pissed.

You have to pay for Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music. Yes, I will be happy to pay a bit more for XM, which has 400 channels and offers live sports, uncensored comedy, and Classic Rewind. While I used to use it via BT, it was a pain, much like the other music services that did not always auto-start or would start the playlist over every time. And like someone said, if you paid $100K for your car and pay hundreds of dollars a month to charge it and insure it, will you worry about the XM fee if you enjoy hundreds of hours of entertainment?

The new SiriusXM "App" in the R1 is a trap. Somehow, Rivian & SiriusXM managed to cough-up an app disguised as a Satellite Radio - complete with a horse-crap Radio ID, even though it's actually just a streaming app. As such, if you call SiriusXM and ask them about this, they want to charge you the full meal-deal $25/mo plus a $15 "radio activation fee" to cover the costs of what should only be a $9.99/mo streaming app-only plan.

If you attempt to login with a valid (existing) SXM streaming account, it just piles the 1 mo free Rivian trial onto your account, so that you get to pay $25+ for the plan after the trial expires. The streaming login is just used as a means to hook your brand new, horse-crap SiriusXM Rivian "Radio ID" to your account so they can harass you into paying 2x (or more) for the same exact thing you're already paying for with the streaming app only plan. W T F, Rivian. I expect this kind of crap from SiriusXM, but what clown at Rivian craped-out this dysfunctional atrocity? Or was this the price Rivian had to agree to pay to get a native app built for their platform?

Either way it sucks. but it's absolutely no different than a regular streaming plan. Back to Android Auto/Bluetooth.
Don’t use it, then. Problem solved

Other than not being able to change stations with the steering wheel, the interface is great and I'm happy to be able to use it natively.

BRILLIANT! I'll be sure to follow you for more recipes after I spend another 2 hours on the phone trying to understand why SXM's trying to milk us $25.10 for a $10 plan. You're the best!

I like the update. Happy to see it added. We've been with SiriusXM from the start. Had it on all my vehicles. Use it on rentals too. Instead of bashing it here, use it or don't use it. You can't please everyone.

I logged in yesterday after the OTA, called SiriusXM, talked to a rep there and they told me I have 3 mo free service after that it's $5 a mo. Not a problem here. The interface is nice. The Chanels in my profile were loaded, plus because it is a streaming service it has all the extra channels that you don't get with the sat service.

If $5 is to much for you, maybe give up a day without a bougie coffee.

After half-a-dozen calls to the Philippines customer service center, I finally got one of them to transfer me to a Canadian rep who transferred me to the same department that handles Tesla's "virtual" accounts. They've opened an investigation to sort out why the $9/mo streaming-only option isn't being presented as an option in the plan selector, and they'll call me back tomorrow with a resolution. So at least I have an active case with someone in the "Corporate Solution Team". They also mentioned that there is inconsistent experiences with the login attempt using a pre-existing streaming account that they're trying to sort out. She also said that they're "having to learn on the fly on this one" and that they had no prior notice this was coming their way.
Interesting. I'll be curious to see what the Corporate Solutions Team comes up with!

Not being able to change stations with the buttons on the steering wheel is a big miss. Hopefully they add that in a future software update.

Hi all. I just set up SiriusXM and wanted to share my experience, which is positive. First, before today, I kept only the streaming only music plan. It was $5 or $7 bucks a month during the trial. I don’t see the plan on the website, but it was something they offered me when I called to cancel after getting my review. I don’t remember what it would have been after the trial period. Today I signed up for the promotional five dollar per month platinum plan. After the year I can drop to car plus streaming music only plan for $9/ month regular price. Or I can threaten to cancel and get a lower price.

Unlike others, I was able to immediately login to the Rivian app with my existing SiriusXM credentials. But I was not able to play any music. When I called the number that appears on the Rivian screen after clicking the start trial button, the customer service agent was going to transfer me to a specialized department for diagnosing why the app was not allowing me to play music. But I stopped her and just told her to sign me up for the platinum trial and cancel my streaming only subscription. I did not want to deal with the headache today. After going through the process with serious, the car did not recognize the new subscription until I did an entertainment reset.

I’m happy to report that Rivian app interface is awesome. Much better than CarPlay and worth the few dollars extra each month.
