The box around Rivian’s hitch receiver is so thick, my very common (Reese) trailer hitch pin isn’t long enough to make it through the receiver. The catch clasp for the pin can’t be inserted. I’ve got to buy a longer hitch pin now.

Test your hitch pin before you’re in a hurry to use it.

Good advice. I had the same issue and had to shop around for a longer pin.

It can also be too long, my locking pin blocks the safety chain hook, and enough of the wiring connector to be questionable

Learned this yesterday while setting up a test run, which turned out to be a good idea. Beefy hitch. Lowes had a perfectly sized 5/8” locking pin in case anyone needs something easy to find.

We had the same issue when we first put the hitch bar into Opal's (our R1T) receiver. Fortunately, we had a hitch pin from our Silverado 2500 2.5" receiver which was long enough to fit properly. Hitch pins for 2.5" receivers are readily available.

I know this came up in an earlier thread and this is the hitch pin I purchased from Amazon and can confirm it works.

This is common and expected for Class 5 hitches, but one thing that's also challenging is that the Rivian has the receiver tucked in unusually deep. It's a problem for short inserts, bicycle racks, and the like. I understand what they were doing, but there should be more warning about this in the manual. Nearly all other trucks have the receiver farther back than the tailgate, and the Rivian has it well forward of it.

Yup, I found that out too when I tried to tow U-Haul trailer. And, wiring of tow hitch does not work. Got error message, and tried different cables plus different trailers. Oh well, nice people at Rivian service center will fix it. Still love my R1T

Yup. Been there. Finally realized that the Class V hitch on the truck used thicker metal and so needed a longer hitch pin. Problem solved.

Me to. Easily solved, but it would be nice if they made a point of warning folks. Or even included the right pin with the vehicle.
