Who would like a 6” longer bed?

To me, the Rivian bed is just 6” shy of being truly useful. I think Rivian would sell more trucks by lengthening the R1T a bit. That leaves space for a few more battery modules, too.

I will say OFTEN the bed is just about 6 inches short. It has never truly stopped me but as an example my portable grill is about 1.5 inches longer than the bed. I just have to take one handle off but it is a pain.

I'm on the fence for this one. Having owned both a 3/4-ton Ram & 1/2 ton Avalanche, the big bed is nice WHEN you need it. That being said, the R1T is not a full size truck so, its not really fair to try and make an equal comparison in that regard, which is what most people will do.

For what the R1T product is, the long gate works fine for me. I have yet to encounter a situation where dropping the gate and using straps would not get the job done. Lets be real too, the majority of owners are not buying these to be a bed hauling workhorse.

Another 6" and the garage parking routine becomes much more complicated (that's what she said).

Not a game changer for me either way, I'd have made the purchase in either configuration. ?‍

I suspect I will ALWAYS find something else that is just shy of fitting, no matter how much longer the bed is.

Right now, having the tailgate drop and still have a flat slideable surface across the entire bed floor seems like a great compromise for this situation. And we can always get those foldable tailgate cages that "extend" it out way more than 6". I'm pretty happy with that.

Yes! The bed is barely too short! I have a couple of pairs of skis that are too long for the bed. 6" would fix the problem.

The whole geometry of the truck would change. Leave the wheels there? bad departure angle. Move the wheels, even worse breakover angle...
Add batteries? probably a fairly significant weight difference, maybe needing stronger wheels and beefier tires, messing up efficiency and payload...

But, the Scout has a larger bed, so maybe that's an option for those who need those extra few inches to really feel fulfilled?

I love the idea of GM's folding midgate trick. I don't know if it is actually practical but the ability to have both an 8ft bed and a 2nd row without making the vehicle absurdly long is very appealing.

As someone who transports pinball machines now and then, it is like 2" short! I end up pulling the tailgate up and tying it to a tie-down location to keep it up as much as possible to keep the backup camera usable and keep schmeg from flying up on the front of the pinball.

This is when the pinball is flat on it's bottom. I could tilt it up on it's back and fit it but that's more of a pain loading and unloading.
