$3,700 to replace, $1,000 deductible, means they would cover $2,700 of it? Seems worth it to me. That's what we have insurance for.

Some insurance companies have separate windshield coverage as well. Not sure the roof would fall into that category. But, for windshields, usually the deductible doesn't apply if you have the glass coverage on your policy.

Can't hurt to ask your agent what's covered and what's not and see if there are any repercussions from making a claim. Might not fall into a collision category. Would at least ask questions. Obviously entirely up to you
We do have glass coverage, but at least for this policy, it counts as a collision claim. If I add in the spoiler, then they want to send an assessor, who would almost certainly (and correctly) reject that part of the claim. It would impact our future coverage rates (according to the agent I spoke to), and since our 20yr old just got a speeding ticket, we're already looking at a price hike, I'd rather not make it worse.

There have been others on here who have cracked their glass but this is the first time I'm hearing about anyone having to replace the spoiler, which accounts for half the cost. Curious to know for certain if this is required for every glass fix.

Also, there's all this debate about whether or not to replace the glass but zero debate about whether or not to replace the wife??? (Just kidding, of course...)

Um, that’s worth it, I would think. What are you worried about? Insurance is in a pool so you won’t have your rate jacked up automatically.
Really? Is that how it works? Serious question; I'm a Brit, and we're trained to think long and hard about any claim, as you'll always end up paying for it in the log run, so unless it's significant damage/cost, we normally find a way to deal with it without insurance getting involved. US insurance is way different, and aside from one hit & run in the rear a long time ago, I've never had to deal with it.

It's not for certain required, but based on today, dealing with Rivian service is not easy. Too many disconnected between their central call center, the Service Center, and the actual tech that's working on the car.

I backed into my wife’s car in the driveway this summer. $2000 damage to me and $3000 to her. We only paid the deductible once since my accident was my fault but my wife’s wasn’t her fault. $500 and all the rest of the work was covered, plus rentals because we have that coverage. No increase in the plan either.

I'm extremely interested on what my back window will cost to replace, was using a electric blower on the tonneau getting rid of some water and a few passes over the rear and whole thing shattered. I'm not sure why Rivian went with glass reinforced with good intentions instead of what everyone else uses. But hopefully they cover this first one.
Say more about this? How did the leaf blower break the glass? Was it just air pressure? Was there any physical contact?

…so I switched everything to Costco/American Family.
Did you find they had the best rates? GEICO just raised my rates 30% for “inflation”, so I’m shopping around.

Rivian’s are going to be damn expensive to insure once the actuaries start to price in these repair costs.

Small update, the SC just called me back again (the comms between the tollfree number, the local SC, and the tech that actually works on the car have been awful), they've now relented on needing to completely replace the spoiler, I guess they somehow read there were scratches (there are, on the shark fin, but not on the spoiler itself, as would be obvious with a quick check on their part).

There's 4 screws that hold the shark fin in place from below (together with VHB tape), they all immediately striped and vanished at the sudden detachment of the fin, so as long as I'm happy not having those 4 screws replaced/reinserted, then I don't need a new spoiler. I'm ok with that if it saves $1700. Very easy to re-secure the shark fin with VHB tape, and a bead of black caulk if I'm feeling extra-fancy.
So revised thread title might be something along the lines of "Cost to replace cracked R1T roof glass - $2209.42."

Yes, a couple of claims and they will raise your rates here in the good ol USA. They even have a system where they share that data with each other so you can't shop around to someone that does not know. I think the EU has privacy protections for that. Some carriers will not ding you much for a single claim but it makes you vulnerable to a big hike if you have anything else go wrong. The only insurance I know of that never raises rates for a claim is life insurance.;)

I have a $1000 deductible and would not bother claiming anything less than $1800. Maybe more now that I have a Rivian with higher insurance costs.

As was said, glass is too expensive anymore. Get free glass coverage on your insurance. It’s relatively inexpensive. And man you feel a little better when you do have to replace it.

Ouch.

We have a single crack in the roof glass, which I suspect, but can't prove (or deny) either way, was caused when my wife just caught the shark-fin antenna backing into the garage. Looking at the security camera footage, it's not clear, but my best guess is that it pushed the fin in slightly, causing the glass to crack.

Labor rates, at least in Dallas, are $200ph, so this is the breakdown for anyone interesting. The glass is one thing, but apparently the rear spoiler is sacrificed to replace the glass, so that is also replaced at a cost of $1770:

The invoice reads that the spoiler was replaced because that's the part that was hit by the garage. Is Rivian claiming the spoiler is damaged or just telling you that its has to replaced every time the roof is replaced?

Yeah, for us at least. At the time no tickets or claims, but we have a teen driver on the policy that doubles the cost. I tried all the usual companies and comparison sites, but Costco came up cheapest. Tesla have, finally, added the Rivian VINs, but when I quoted them last week, the rate was 30% higher than Costco. Previously (with a 98 safety score) it was about half the price, so I'm not sure what's changed there. Maybe they're penalizing us for buying a Rivian!

I did, there would be a $1k deductible, and it would count as a collision claim. So, not worth it.
its only collision because you said that your wife backed into the garage door. it'd have been comprehensive coverage if you said your wife sat on the roof/spoiler :giggle:
