Air suspension noise - is it normal?

The answer is probably "yes, its normal, but considering Rivian had to repair something in the air suspension before I took delivery, I wanted to get a read on the "normal" noise I should hear in the cabin. I don't hear the compressor (good). I do hear quite a bit of clicking and clacking when the air suspension is adjusting at low speed or stopped. Is that normal? I've never had air suspension, and it just seems a bit more noise than expected. Thanks!

Sounds normal to me. If you go from highest setting and lower vehicle you can hear the air being released as well.

I can hear stuff when mine is adjusting. Its not super worrisome noises but they are clearly mechanical sounds like solenoids opening and closing which would make sense for what its doing.

noisiest suspension ive ever owned in a vehicle. i too have never owned one with air suspension but do i hear the compressor fire off from time to time. im in AP 95% of the time and i dont use "auto".

just generally going over bumps on a paved, flat street, the suspension is noisy to me. i cant tell if its noiser than other suspensions i have or the sound dampening is just not good in the vehicle but i hear a lot.

I too hear very loud clicking / clacking sound at low speeds as the suspension is adjusting. It's actually kinda embarrassing as I have seen people stare at the vehicle as I drive by (typically in front of stores) as it adjusts from kneel to standard height. It's on my list to get evaluated at my first service visit to address issues found at delivery. I have a sinking feeling that they will say it is normal.

Noisy suspension is pretty typical it seems.

It is a Jeckyl and Hyde suspension....one minute its clattering over small imperfections, then you go off road crawling over rocks, dips, ruts etc and feels like a cushy ride. My dream is an R2 pickup with coils. lol

I can here the solenoids activating, the compressor when running, as well as creaking from the suspension being under load as the changes in height affect the suspension geometry a bit. All not ideal but I believe "normal" for Rivians. There is also the known "tocking" from play in the half shafts at low speeds that some have seen improvement on from the service initiative adding washers.

It's normal. I have two and drove a 3rd . They all make the clicking during ride height adjustment. It will make more noise if you have the brakes on. It's noisy over uneven road surfaces. It's all normal for Rivian. It sounds like a truck...but with no ICE you hear every little noise.

Exactly! The air suspension on my Range Rover was never loud like the air suspension on the R1S. It makes popping noises and is always adjusting each corner at stop lights.

FWIW, have MB GL w/air and no noises. Have R1S on order, so a bit nervous about this. Not normal.

If it "is" normal, it shouldn't be. The popping and crackling of the compressor is way too loud and annoying. And the car does not need to raise and lower as much as it does, no real reason for that.
