Original post: "The ride on my R1T (DM Large) is gone from great to awful with the 19.04 update. It is like it is stuck in firm. Every bump (even small freeway bumps!) are transmitted through the vehicle and on poorly paved roads it is as crappy a my much-hated old Silverado. Is anyone else having the same experience? I am going to ask Rivian to revert to the previous software, it is just that bad."

As my high school statistics teacher said so often: correlation is not causation. I have a bad rear drive motor. It is getting replaced. The software update was just a coincidence. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nope. Many, including myself, have found tremendous improvement in those specific situations.

I recommend a full vehicle restart (check the manual for instructions). And it should go without saying that you should make sure you are in the correct drive mode and ride height.

Crazy. I did a soft reset (yes, yes, on all-purpose and auto as per always). I will do a full vehicle restart but it is seriously terrible. I wonder if it is somehow stuck in Firm or something? It is bone jarring and it was great.

I had the same reaction on my first drive post update but it definitely smoothed out quickly and now I’m really happy with it. Given the adaptive nature of the new update which factors in things like payload I chalked it up to the new software taking some time to catch up.

ok. I have a hard reset happening now. Will give it a bit or time. We have some rough roads just outside out neighborhood and man did it suck! But let's hope. (I was so totally happy with teh previous suspension tuning!)

I am a 'Soft' kind of a guy. Before, the off-camber undulations and imperfections threw me left and right more than any vehicle I have ever driven and the tail would slam down even at low speeds on speed bumps . Made me have crawl over bumps. After the update, it is one of the better vehicles I have in the same situation. Pretty amazing the improvement just via an OTA.

I have an early Gen1 T and a lye Gen1 S and both vehicles are MUCH improved after 19.04. In fact, I was seriously considering posting a message to Rivian engineering to stop the tweaks because 19.04 has hit the mark.

You may also want to check your ride height. After the update my R1T went to auto which meant it when to the low setting at freeway speeds which is a much less comfortable ride.

If you notice your suspension has gotten more loose/rattly overnight, the first thing I recommend is to fully cycle your suspension height. I set my stiffness to soft, then while in all-purpose and driving slowly I raise the vehicle up to high and wait for it to complete. Then I lower the vehicle to low, and wait. Then you can set it back to standard and moderate stiffness.

This seems to actuate the air suspension system and brings the plush and compliant ride quality back.

Those saying better, are you referring to R1S or R1T?

I don’t often complain but the changes to R1T are not good. At all. Clunkingis embarassingly loud. On soft I can’t go more than 55 around a tight curve on the highway there is so much roll. The ride a year ago was better.

Soft reset is infotainment only. But I wouldn't even describe sport+lowest+firm in the way you have.

I have an R1T and the improvements were substantial to me. I don't have any of the 'clunking' you describe. Squeaking like a 1931 Ford pickup? Oh yeah. Clunking? No. And body roll is about on par to other vehicles I've driven. Soft will do that.

I have driven both. The clunking does seem more noticable. My R1T seems better but I drive in moderate majority of the time. I'm not sure how I feel about the R1S yet. My wife primarily drives the S and I always felt the S had too much roll on the highway in standard.

Now I feel like the S needs to be in standard firm all the time...low firm on highway. I want to drive the S more before I come to a definitive conclusion.

I tried the hard reset and drove it another 60 miles or so. It is definitely too stiff and very rattly to me. I will try to cycle as @SPITmadFIRE suggests, but I have already put in a ticket to revert to the previous software build. I can live without the Cameras and improved cartoons. I want the ride back to the way it was....

Something is wrong for sure. I found with my R1T the compression dampening is lower allowing bumps to be soaked up while the rebound dampening is higher to stop violent return and pogoing.
