Ok update on my test. Left my truck garaged for 36 hours. Started at 70%, ended at 67%. This is much better than I was experiencing before. 1% every 12 hours is acceptable. It's still a lot of energy to be using, but it's livable.

Something I noticed: I checked on my battery a couple times while away and I had a "wake up" button on my app that I had to press. I had never seen this before. This suggests to me that my truck was never actually going to sleep before... I don't think this was a recent iOS update...

I’ve noticed a good improvement in drain since the 2022.19 update. About 2kwh or 1.5% per 24hrs. This is 2-3 times less than what I was seeing before. Still not great but getting better. I mean 2-3kwh is still a serious amount of power! Like running my home central ac for an hour. I have everything off including proximity unlock at home.

It is much “quieter” at rest than before. Sometimes I’d walk by and hear random fans and pumps running when it’s just sitting there for hours. But that has stopped since the update.

One curious thing is it still reacts to me approaching with my phone, even with proximity unlock off. First I walked up without the phone to see if it did anything and nothing happened. So then I grabbed my phone from the house and walked up to it again. As I approach with the phone the rear taillight blips on and off and then I hear some actuators in the front doing something. However the doors remain locked.

Seems to me some systems could still be better optimized for “sleep mode”. A good improvement but keep those updates coming!

Edit: Trouble attaching a video showing the activity when approaching with a phone and proximity unlock set to “off at home” :-(

.19 didn’t seem to improve things for me. Was losing 6 miles per day before, and lost 9 miles in 36 hours after the update. Time to play with some other settings (proximity, PaaK) to see if that improves things.

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to see what combo get you the best results.

Same here. 27 hour test with .19.

A theory of mine is that when plugged in the design is such that the truck will do more house keeping tasks than when it is not on the assumption that preserving range is more important to owners than saving a couple bucks. So you might test that out.

Does anyone know when 12V battery is charged (only when at rest, only when moving? or both)? and how much juice both batteries hold? I am trying to see how much if any that contributes. If running AC or the stereo when moving contributes to main pack drain when stationary?

Did a 7 hour test with the 120V outlets on while running our 12V fridge in the bed. Wanted to see how an off-grid camping trip might impact battery drain. What were seeing is after 7 hours is it used 6% and 18 miles. Yikes! That means for 24 hours we're looking at 20.6% and 61.7 miles. Wait...what?? ?

I agree, I may be seeing very slight improvement, but not meaningful. I was losing about 3.5% SoC per day. While I have not done a long term test, I would say I am still losing about 3% per day SoC. Gear Guard is turned off ... BTW.

Was the fridge in the sun or enclosed space (Frunk)?

Left on a trip (different vehicle) and unplugged truck at 65%. 72 hours later was at 60% - unscientific not knowing if that was at the top of 65 and bottom of 60 - but much better than what I have seen previously
Truck was in garage, phone was with me and wasn't checking the app

Fridge is in the bed (too big for the frunk) so it had to be plugged into the 120V--no 12V plug in the bed. :( Test was in a shop building, so shaded and around 65*F-not enclosed.

As most everything in the truck except the heaters, the traction motors and the compressor are powered by the 12V batteries I think its a fair bet that they are charged when the vehicle is going down the interstate. As the truck must do several housekeeping things when at rest I think its a fair bet that they are charged when at rest as well. Evidently there was a problem with them NOT getting charged at rest so they were found dead by several owners but aparently this has been fixed by OTA update.

and how much juice both batteries hold?
They appear from their size to be 30 - 40 Ah (WAG) so 720 - 960 Wh?

II don't know what rules the Rivian uses for deciding when to charge the 12V batteries but it is clear that if, at the end of a trip, i.e. when you go into P, they still need charging and the charger charges them that charge will get billed to the vampire account.

Was it precooled or did it have to cool down from ambient to cold?

It wasn't pre-cooled. Started out at around 55*F. I know that makes a difference and would pre-cool it for actual trip. So, this would not be a "good" test. It was down to the set temp in about an hour, though, and it didn't look like it used much power during that 1st hour.
It's also my understanding that using the 120V over the 12V will uses more power due to the inverter, so that's not ideal. Sure wish there was a 12V outlet in the bed.
