There are about 10-11 or so chargers at the Sacramento RAN station, 6 of which are DCFC. I was curious as most times in there I see a black Model S backed into the handicap space (no placard though).

I was curious and had time to kill while charging and from the street it looks like 2-3 waypoint chargers, then 3 DCFC, then some electrical equipment, then 2 more waypoints (where said Tesla was beached), then two more DCFC. The trailer space is off to the side.

when I was there I only saw non teslas at the waypoints…but the DCFC chargers were almost in constant use

Just a quick question, I have not had a chance to use a RAN station yet.

My wife wants to use the Rivian for a short trip, are the RAN stations completely plug and charge?

I just charged last week at 2 different RAN chargers and was 100% free. Our Guide told us when we picked up our R1T in May that the FREE charging ended on April 30th....so far it is FREE. I am taking advantage of it when we can. I am hoping they open the one in Interstate 5 in California in Santa Nella and Buttonwillow before we head down in September.
Sure could use them there..

The moment they open one near me is when they will start charging. Nearest RAN to me is in Barstow, about 100 miles away.

I’ll get to hopefully experience one in a few weeks on my trip to Dallas. They better still have it for free!

They're great. Went to Vegas. Used Barstow on the way up and back. 30 minute plug and play stops, no issues. Tried to charge at Electrify America in Vegas, spent two hours due to slow charging, half the chargers not working and long lines waiting. RAN makes me not miss my Tesla. EA makes me desperately miss my Tesla's.

So at RAN fast chargers just opened in Waynesboro Va, they are free for now. The 6 plugs are labeled 1a,b,c and 2a,b,c. I suppose they like Tesla chargers and labeled thus so that you know not to tap into 1b when 1a or c is in use, thus cutting power that plug?. I was plugged In charging at 460mph, then a guy in the adjacent space connected and powered up. I dropped to about 340mph. Just as a social courtesy, connect to a different number if possible!

Amazing how most people have no clue of this, even with Tesla's. I always try to educate fellow chargers when I can, but not sure the message always gets through.

I didn't think the RANs shared power? Could it be you hit a battery percentage on the charging curve that decreased your power?

They do share power. Their normal 6-pedestal setup has 2 banks of 3 chargers. Each bank can do a total of 300kW.

It's definitely worth giving a polite educational comment to people who pull into 1b instead of 2a/b/c while you're on 1a. "Hey, I'm definitely not asking you to move, but just so you're aware in the future, the chargers share power and so you would be getting a faster charge if you had plugged into 2a/b/c instead of 1b." Don't make it about them slowing down your charge because that will be confrontational. Make it about helping them charge faster in the future.
