When my R1S arrived at the service center pre-delivery I was able to check it out (exterior only) and take some photos. Delivery is now scheduled for Saturday. Ideally they will have corrected any issues with the vehicle, but tell me what you think of these panel gaps. Some are pretty obvious, but if they haven't been fixed are these all things I should ask to have repaired?

I’m usually pretty tolerant of minor gaps, but those are pretty bad. I would at least set up a time in the future to have them adjusted. They can do better.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
The only one I’d consider letting slide is the charging port, but the rest are egregious. File a ticket for all of them.

ETA: your charging port looks exactly like mine, so either they’re both normal or I should have filed a ticket 3 months ago.

Why does a factory that is supply chain constrained continue to build vehicles like this? It is a serious question and one that concerns me.

That said...I love my Rivian. Love the brand. Not shitting on Rivian. Acknowledge all manufacturers have issues.

Exceptionally Bad. The charger door tolerable. Surprised that made it past qc.

I remember seeing these exact gaps on another thread. I believe the OP said When they took it to the service center they were told since it’s water tight it’s within spec and they didn’t adjust it.

The first photo and last 2 photos don’t seem that bad. The others are unacceptable.

Ops
hopefully they gave you a due bill to have that fixed.

Honestly after experiencing Rivian Service for a year I'd have refused delivery. They still have not fixed anything on my due bills except the spare tire.

Agree with others, have them address before you pick it up. The only one that isn't too bad is the charge port door. Lots of the others aren't lining up. I wouldn't even be worried so much about "large gaps" so much as the fact that the panels aren't aligned and protruding.

The only thing I'd worry about with the charge port door is if it's that far off on the back end it might be rubbing on the body panel on the front. I had to have mine re-fitted because of that (scraped some paint off the charge port door but not the metal body.

It doesn't look super clean but most of those issues don't seem too awful except the trim piece on the rear window - that one looks real far off.

Actually the charge port door looks within spec but everything else is a hard no for me, I'd be forfeiting that VIN in a heartbeat. Who knows what else is wrong with it.

Exactly this, why when they have two shifts and are supply constrained in a factory running at less than 30% capacity are they continuing to turn out R1S models with misaligned tailgates as well as other issues. How will they cope when they run at anywhere near 100% capacity which they must do to minimize the cash burn in the next 1-2 years.
