Not the person you replied to, but I was in the same situation. Mine had a high pitched whine at about 25-35 mph. They replaced the whole front drive unit.
How long did it take to replace?

From the moment we parked at the Blauvert SC to when we picked up, almost 4 weeks. Took them a week to diagnose, 2 weeks to get the parts, 1 week to service.

I see. They said they have the parts already so hopefully not too long.

Oh. That’s good to hear. Thank you. In what situations did you have the whine?
Mine was any movement it was a whine, all weather, speeds, modes etc. - trying to find the post where I uploaded a video of the sound but can’t seem to navigate to it (maybe you’ll have better luck) anyway, took them around 2-3 weeks to get the part in a repair. Now onto the next problem… the clunking and “chirping” sounds are even worse than before… just waiting for my next appointment to come around ?

I have not had the drive unit(s) replaced, but definitely had all sorts of those issues with my old Gen1 Quad. They replaced dampers, jounce, and halfshafts. Nothing stopped the ever-worsening rattle and clatter from the front. I'm interested in how this works out for you.

My new Gen2 Tri is starting to rattle just like my Gen1 did. I only have 1300 miles on it! Ugh.

Sound for me is much worse in warmer weather.
It's the half-shafts, they have a sliding mechanism inside that allows your vertical travel. If the shaft didn't have that sliding internal design it would be silent, but your vehicle would have no lifting or lowering ability.

For those of us Quad owners with Bosch motors, I can’t help but wonder how many replacements they have stored away for future warranty claims. I, and many others, have 7 years left on our drivetrain warranty. That’s a long time and certainly there will be many claims. While the Bosch motors seem to be very reliable, there have been numerous reports of replacements. Seems like there’s a good chance there will come a point in the coming years where they are no longer any Bosch motors left for warranty claims. I assume if that happened, the only way to honor the claim would be to replace the entire vehicle.

However, maybe they just have a huge warehouse full of these Bosch motors. Or, maybe despite Rivian’s legal dispute with Bosch, Bosch can still build replacement units by request. I don’t have a clue…

Hopefully the situation with Bosch replacement motors becomes clearer in the coming years. If it turns out there’s no way to replace them when my warranty runs out, I may be be trading in my Quad for something more easily serviceable. There could be a lot of people with unintentional Gen 1 Tris in the coming the years :)

Had a LE QM R1T and over months went through all the interim “repairs” (new lube, washers, bolts, tightening, sub frame, etc.) and finally a front drive unit replacement, all to no avail. The only thing that worked was to receive a new replacement DM R1T. Life is good now.

Yes, and the driver side as well, including the subframe and other parts. No warnings or noise prior to my unexpected off-roading incident.

By replacement do you mean they bought it back?

Despite what people on this forum may say, you are definitely an outlier.

Trouble began at 3,000 miles. At around 12,000 miles Rivian took it back.
Interesting...I was just thinking too your in AZ where it can get pretty hot. The reports I have seen here all seem to get worse with warmer weather with cooler temps reducing it to varying degrees.
