So I have been waiting for an opportunity to see how the drain would be when parking for a while. For background info, I’m an airline pilot so one of my concerns would be long term airport parking. I’ve had 7 teslas in the past, and their drain has become a non issue. I can park my Model 3 for 30 days at my work airport and lose less than 10%.

On Sunday 23 July, at 7:25pm I parked my R1S with 86%, 265 miles of range. I turned Gear Guard off and left it. I never opened the app but did download the 2.0 update. Fast forward to today, Sunday, 30 July at 12:50pm, I woke the car via the app to cool it down before I get in, and it was at 79%, 248 miles of range.

That’s not zero drain, but certainly manageable for parking for a week or 2. Just wanted to drop a data point for people wondering.
I wonder if u put it under shipping mode how much drain you would lose.

Initially that was my plan. But when I went to select it, I noticed it said the alarm would be turned off. I decided I at least wanted to keep that on. That’s the only reason I didn’t try shipping mode.

This is encouraging, thanks for posting.

I’ve noticed that my truck’s vampire drain has begun to approach 1.5%/day with GG on, left for extended periods in a covered place (SFO long-term parking, to be specific). Have also seen 1%/day when the truck is left at home (GG off) for similar periods of time. Good to see others are converging on similar numbers.

Two recent experiences, both on pre 2023.22.0 build:

1) 10 days gone, GG off, truck in garage, locked and keys nowhere nearby: 0.5% / day loss
2) 10 days gone, GG ON, truck at SFO parking garage, keys hopefully nowhere nearby: 1.5%/day loss

I’m going to do another test on next trip, leave GG off (if I get a good spot somewhere clearly away from idiots) and see how it goes. This will be with the latest SW release.
This seems…fine.
1.5% a day w/ GG isn’t bad and allows for a long sit without problems; even staying in 20-80% it would take over a month to eat that 60% of battery. If you are regularly leaving your Riv sitting for more than 40 days, maybe you should just rent one on Turo? Otherwise, charge it before you park and go live your life!

Thank you Rivian engineering for working on the phantom drain. We have been away from our plugged in truck since the beginning of June and nice to see the latest update has resulted in a significant decrease in home electrical usage.

Interesting...I'm back to 2-3% drain overnight after the last update. I was at 1%.

I also noticed an uptic prior to latest update after my 0 for multiple days I lost 2% on a day at home. One possibility could have possibly been that I had my AC on and I was doing yard work weedeating and blowing driveway for a while right outside and could have had AC running inadvertently. Usually I turn it off when I get home to prevent something like that from happening as I go to the garage somewhat frequently. So my sample size is rather limited overall.

I'm averaging 1.7kWh of phantom drain per day with all the gear guard features on at all times.

How are you pulling/measuring the daily idle usage?

Between 330pm Sunday and 7am Tuesday (today) I lost 2% and 6 miles. Longest I've ever left the truck unplugged without driving it so don’t know if it’s better or worse.

That's still 1% (1kw) per day so nothing new and still the same vampire drain, unfortunately.

Probably the best/easiest way to measure kWh loss is to zero out one of the trip odometers then come back after X hours and see the loss it's displaying. If we all do it this way, we make it an apples to apples comparison when quoting figures.

Contributing to the positive news. I'm on the latest firmware (did not have drain issues prior to update either). It's been in the garage since Saturday unplugged at 80%. Unlocked and only got in the vehicle two or three times to grab stuff. Walked by it a few times and the lights flashed at me. That's about it in terms of my interaction with the car.

Five days, 80% > 79%.

Here is my data point, hope it would be helpful to someone:

I had a chance to observe battery drain over 8 day period.

Left the truck in covered parking structure, unplugged with 81% (226mi)
I didn't check the app, Gear guard was enabled (low foot traffic area), 8 days later:
Came back to 72% (200mi)

The trip computer reported 1 kWh total usage.

I estimated 1.5 kWh of consumption per day.

PS: running on version 2023.30.0
