That's not real V2H - it's a Tesla implementation where you charge a powerwall and the powerwall supplies power to the house. Ford has a similar proprietary implementation.

V2H is part of the CCS specifications, and defines a standardized way of an EV supplying power to a house which doesn't rely on any proprietary technology but is interoperable with all implementations of V2H.

I mean, anything is *possible* over NACS, that's not really the point is it? I could probably charge my cell phone over NACS with the right adapter. Or even communicate over the internet via NACS - it wouldn't be the strangest implementation of an Ethernet PHY layer ... https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1149
"V2H" isn't a specific defined thing. It literally just means "Vehicle to home" - which both Tesla & Ford's implementations are.

CCS may have defined a V2H protocol as part of its spec, but they did so just as NACS won the format war, and now it's looking like nobody will actually release a full home CCS V2H system.

Well if it isn't part of the standard, it's useless.

Right now, the Ford "V2H" system can only be used with a Ford Lightning.
Right now, the Tesla "V2H" system can only be used with a Tesla Cybertruck.

So what good is it?

Tesla uses the NACS standard protocol.
Ford uses the CCS standard protocol.

Tesla uses the NACS standard protocol.
Ford uses the CCS standard protocol.
I doubt its that straightforward. NACS is a superset that includes CCS. Compatibility fro bi-directional is unclear.

Currently, Tesla doesn't offer this feature, although it said that NACS could support bi-directional charging in theory. Asked during March 1 Investor Day about bi-directional charging, Drew Baglino, Tesla's VP of Powertrain and Energy Engineering, offered some hope. Baglino admitted that this wasn't a priority for Tesla, but it could offer it within the next two years. Still, Elon Musk, speaking immediately after Baglino, was skeptical that people would want to use bi-directional charging.

So basically don’t buy their current charger if you plan to use V2H
I just hope it doesn't take forever to come out and then cost big $$$ when it does...

But seriously, can you just make do with a bare 40-amp outlet and adapter in the meantime? I don't want this to delay a purchase of a R1S refresh!

30% Federal tax credit ?
The Residential Clean Energy Credit equals 30% of the costs of new, qualified clean energy property for your home installed anytime from 2022 through 2032. The credit percentage rate phases down to 26 percent for property placed in service in 2033 and 22 percent for property placed in service in 2034. You may be able to take the credit if you made energy saving improvements to your home located in the United States.

The credit is nonrefundable, so the credit amount you receive can't exceed the amount you owe in tax. You can carry forward any excess unused credit, though, and apply it to reduce the tax you owe in future years. Do not include interest paid including loan origination fees.

The credit has no annual or lifetime dollar limit except for credit limits for fuel cell property. You can claim the annual credit every year that you install eligible property until the credit begins to phase out in 2033.
Qualified expenses include the costs of new clean energy property including:

Solar electric panels
Solar water heaters
Wind turbines
Geothermal heat pumps
Fuel cells
Battery storage technology (beginning in 2023)

I have a charger already, so will just use my old one until this comes out.

The cost of install of V2H will be several thousand in total. I think folks have given some breakdown estimates in this thread.

I have an 18 year old NG powered Generac. My choices are replace with new in a couple of years or set up to use one of my EV’s. No brainer for me battery power is the way to go quiet, safe, available
Why replace it at all? My 22kw Generac stand-by generator is now approaching 10 years old and has a life expectancy of 3,000 hours run time (which is very conservative, by the way). It's currently just under 300 hours of run time. It's big enough to power my entire house and comes on automatically about 15 seconds after the utility power goes out. It will run continuously until the utility power is restored, no worries about batteries running out of power. We had a very rare tornado go through my area a couple of years ago and power was out for five days, but the generator kept the house running without issue, so for me, it's worth every penny.

My worry with a generator is if it’s not regularly maintained, tested then come time you need it it may not work.

Thanks for your insight!
Stand-by generators (like my Generac) automatically run for a few minutes (they call it exercise) once a week to ensure that it's always ready. It also has a status LED that shows green/amber/red on the outside of the housing. This indicates if the generator is ready to run (green), will run but needs attention (amber), or will not run (red). And on the newest units, you get a wireless connection that pairs to a smartphone app that will always show you the status and send you alerts.

Most of the air cooled generators are very simple and need very little maintenance. And oil and filter change once every two years, an air filter change I believe every 3 or 4 years, and two spark plugs and a valve lash adjustment after a certain amount of run hours. It's basically a lawn mower engine. Easy peasy and costs almost nothing to maintain.
