I’ve had this feature on my ‘22 Volvo XC90. I had it on a ‘17 Volvo XC90 as well. Very handy, but this isn’t really new technology.

I had AutoPilot on my 2016 Model X using Mobileye (Call it Gen 1)
Guess what ... Tesla dumped it because they were attempting to use it beyond what Mobileye allowed.

Now my 2017 Model X is using different hardware (Call it Gen 2) and is working fairly well still.

Guess what ... now Tesla has a "Gen 3" and it is unlikely the legacy "Gen 2" cars will really and truly be upgraded ... or not for several years as they wait for all them to upgrade to 'Gen 3' cars.

The way of hardware and software integration.

mobileye is driving off those cameras so it's obviously not an issue
No, I know the exterior cameras - they're like 720p or whatever. But the little camera inside the vehicle - the driver-facing one in 1st gen vehicles - thought I remember someone saying that thing had the resolution of a potato and that's why they disabled it... LOL. ?

I've been enjoying hands free ADAS on every road for a few weeks now with my Comma 3X. If you want this for G1, you can get it now. It's works great.

I doubt it. I believe it's because rivian throught they could compute eye tracking but that amount of computer vision was beyond their capabilities at the time

Hands-free ?!?
2021 Mach-E with Blue curise 1.3 can do the same stuff mentioned in video. MACH-E Has 5 cameras and able do that.
Gen 1 has 11 cameras and 5 radars and not able to that, they mentioned in website all this stuff will come in future OTA .
So basically rivian picked mobileeye camera like 2018 model or They dont want to spend time and money on Gen 1

I had to touch the steering wheel every 15-20 seconds or so. Other than that, pretty much the same.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
If rivian is just using hands free mobileye driving, then what they are talking about in the video are pretty blatant lies. Claiming that the current version of their driving is their latest AI advancements.
They were saying it’s their own perception programming, so I’m imagining it’s pigging backing off of Mobile Eye. Didn’t someone do a test recently that shows what Mobile Eye does vs Rivian’s own ADAS?

Looking forward to it getting better and that’s exciting.

As a Gen1 guy, I’ll believe it when it’s done. My system was sold to me as being able to scale. It did not.

That was me

And while my testing was very much shows the possibility of that, is not... 100% conclusive. There was one part in the video that made me question it, where he specifically mentioned 3rd party hardware (referring to Mobile Eye) and said specifically they weren't using that.

He may have been using some tricky wording to talk about how they are layering stuff on top of mobile eye with their own hardware, but it did make me question a bit

Same with my XC90 and MDX, both are really good on all roads with much less hardware than my Rivian.

Literally all the same BS they sold with Gen 1.
Oh do you mean this little nugget?

They planned it early on that Gen 1’s WOULD NEVER get Hands Free driving.
See above.

The video talked about them not having the full stack before (Gen 1) so they had limitations as the HW manufacturers gave them limited control. Rivian many not have known JUST how limiting it would be or how flexible the HW manufacturers would be in providing updates to give them more capabilities. Clearly the HW man. did not.

That is why in Gen 2 they wanted the full stack so they didn't have limitations. Key point from the video completely being ignored.
...or Rivian opted to not pay the licensing fee.

not a key point because rivian has the "full stack" in terms of their own compute (nvidia)

That's not what they are using here. In fact they are using a mobileye camera and computer which will not even be used for rivian's own driving in the future.

What rivian is doing is passing off Mobileye technology as their own and promising future upgrades on this technology, when in fact the Mobileye product is EOL and in some ways like tesla, the new product might be a step backward
Do you have any facts about this? I'm talking about this latest update. Is Rivian still using Mobieye? In the video, they clearly stated that, in fact, they have been developing this AI tech for a while now.

Love my Gen1 R1T but I don't care what vehicle you have, taking your hands off the wheel for long periods of time is not smart.

I am not an old fuddyduddy but when I took drivers traininng back in 1980, the instructer said to me "never take your hands off the wheel". I know that was a time when there wasn't moden technology, but I still hisvoice in my head and I don't use the driver+. I have played with it at times, but it isn't something I would see myself using on a regular basis.

I will not trust my $100k vehicle an my life on a $5.00 silicon chip. A system is only as smart as the weakest part of the system.

I work in the bay area (close to Rivian's HQ) and the traffic in the bay area is horrible.....we are talking 1.5 hours to go 12 milesduring rush hour.

Will I trust the Driver+ (type software/assist) ever?......I don't know, maybe. To me thechnology is at the era of a 80486 PC from the early 90's.
