An idiot hit us in “ Small overlap front collision” and I assume totaled my R1T [Updated with pic of damage to other truck ?]

First off, we are very thankful for being in the R1T. The truck took a massive hit and my son and I walked away mostly un-injured. Tomorrow I will be really pissed that the truck I waited 3 years to get and that is by far the best truck I've ever driven was destroyed. But tonight I am so thankful for how well it was built. The other guy sure didn't walk away. And I still don't know his name or his condition. I hope he ends up being ok too. As stupid was what he did was. (we were told at the scene he was drunk.)

I'm not sure what we do next. I assume it will have to go to a Rivian shop, not a normal autobody place. If anybody has any thoughts, ideas, tips, or suggestions on our next moves here please post or direct message me.

Edit: thanks for all the encouraging words. We are both doing well now. My soreness is mostly gone. My son is 100%. The whole thing has gotten me down this week. But yesterday and today I'm feeling a lot more like my normal self. So far Progressive has been easy to work with and it sounds like they are going to give me a fair value and not try to low ball me. But we haven't seen the final numbers yet. And Rivian has been incredible during this process. So hopefully we can move on with our lives and get back to normal pretty soon.

Sorry to hear that and glad the Rivian kept you safe. Luckily the second hand market seems pretty reasonable, and maybe Rivian can get you a replacement quickly if you ask nicely ?

Glad you and your son are ok. I’m really sorry. This is awful on several levels.

Best bet is to get on the phone with Rivian service as soon as you can and see if they can get it in for an estimate, or at least a review of structural components.

I would also push your insurance to ensure they will only have it looked at by a Rivian-approved body shop, if Rivian suggests you go that route first instead.

That looks totaled. Rather than going to a body shop, you’ll probably get a vehicle sooner by getting a declaration of being totaled and picking a new replacement from the R1 shop

I sure hope that is the case. I imagine it will be a fight with insurance about it all. And I was told by someone at the scene the driver didn't have a tag on the back of his truck. So I bet he had no insurance. Not sure if any of that will matter. But it's going to likely be me dealing with my own insurance folks.

Sorry to hear… that sucks. That said, if it’s your own insurance, they’ll probably be more amenable to declaring it totaled.

Thanks guys! I’m encouraged that y’all also think totaled. I wouldn’t want it to be attempted to be fixed. No way it ever is right again.
Tonight I’m just thankful we were in an extremely heavy and well built truck.

100% it's totaled. Don't think insurance will say otherwise once the numbers are run.

Almost certainly totaled. Seems to me it would be impossible that doesn't have structural damage beyond reasonable repair. Sorry for this happening, but trucks fall into "stuff" and "stuff" can be replaced. Glad you and son are OK. That is most important part.
