I'll be staying at an Air BNB this week. Thought I'd be OK as there is a 50 kW EVGo a few miles down the road, but then I read the reviews on Plugshare and it's been down for...over 2 years!?! Not seeing anything else convenient at all while I'm there. Assuming I can find an outdoor outlet, what should I expect for charging speed on 110V? I can get about 5 MPH on my Model 3, but I would think 2-3 MPH may be max with the R1? At home I have a 240V x 20A breaker (charging limited to 16 A.) which gives me 15 MPH on my M3, but only about 8-9 with the R1T, and that is after the green light bars turn off. while those are on it's only 2-4 MPH. I can turn gear guard off, and I expect temps to be about 60F during the day, 40F at night.

I was in the same situation over Thanksgiving...We were spending 4 nights in a VRBO. I was all prepared with a 50 ft 14-50 extension cord (which weighs about 65 lbs!) and a 14-30P to 14-50R adapter, only to find that the dryer outlet was a 10-30 outlet so my adapter didn't work. I now carry both.

So - I had to plug in to the 110 outlet and got somewhere about 2 MPH plugged in. Because we were there for 4 days it was plenty of time to bring me back up to 85% on the battery which is all I needed to reach the L3 charger we knew we had to hit on our way home.

AirBnB is so frustrating when EV charging in a listing doesn’t say what kind of charging is present. The best listings show a photo of the charger or wall outlet. I’m also surprised at just how few listings have EV charging.

So far, I don’t see where you can filter VRBO listings for EV charging.

Oh - one other thing relevant to this thread...

If you're going anywhere while you're away and are going to be there for a couple of hours, it's probably worth a call to see if the destination has any chargers there. We spent almost four hours at Ommegang Brewery but drove ICE vehicles so that Rosey could stay plugged in while we were away. We arrived to see four unoccupied L2 chargers right in front of the entrance! I had checked the website and PlugShare and nothing showed up so we didn't want to "waste" 15 miles round-trip when we had a number of other cars to carry people. We could have come away 70-80 miles ahead if we had taken the R1S!

Did our first 110v charge last weekend. Outdoor, 25-40F. ~48 hrs, +65 miles, however that was up to 91% so the upper limit slowed a bit

Hopefully you added those chargers to Plugshare?

I do level 1 charging all the time, at about those temperatures. I have a R1T, DM large pack, with 21" road tires and average 2.8 miles/hour. Thats a little higher because my range is 360 miles with the DM and tire config. I'm heading to an AirBNB in a hour, and I will be looking for an external outlet!

A little south of there, down towards Hancock, NY.

Actually, I didn't add them on purpose. I asked the manager why the EV chargers weren't listed on the website or anywhere and they told me that they're not public chargers - they're only meant for customers to use while they're in the brewery or restaurant. They don't want people parking their cars at the charger and then going someplace else for the day. I thought adding them to PlugShare would imply that they're available to anyone.

R1S with 21" road tires. 110v at 14A I get about 1.4 mi/h charge rate. At 110v I frequently have to kick down the 16a to 14a to not blow a breaker (other things on the 20a circuit of course).

We did some 110 volt charging before we got our our Rivian wall charger installed. we got a consistent 2 mph charge rate.

I'm afraid we have a way to go to get really noticed and accommodated. I just read some information about percentage of EV's on the road. It said that there are 284 million vehicles on US roads. Among these, 1.7 million are EV's. That means that we are only 0.59% of the vehicles out there.

Just picked up my R1S yesterday (my first EV) after a year+ on the list and totally in love. We use VRBO a lot, especially in the summer, and I’ve been thinking that my best option in many cases will be a long extension cord hooked into a dryer outlet…but I’ve literally never charged an EV and I’m clueless as to the necessary connectors etc.
If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind sharing exactly what your setup is for both of the connection options you mentioned? (as I will be immediately ordering!)
Please forgive the total noob-question, just getting on the 100% electric train and pumped to build out my contingency-charging kit!
thanks in advance!!
